I've got into the habit of walking across the park after my food buy and feeding a couple of pieces of bread to the birds on the Serpentine. They now recognise me (see some pics in the photo section) and await my coming with glee. Today they clearly know I am not only no threat but as dangerous as a statue. Pigeons sat on my arms and legs and even on top of my hat, asking for crumbs. Swans left the water, came, said hello politely and waited for chinks of stale bread. I was a bit nervous - some of those beaks are quite strong. Passers by were rocking with laughter - I must have looked quite a sight, literally covered with birds. One gorgeous goose (you can see him in my photos) is incredibly friendly and rather jealous of the others - he or she wants me all for themselves.
Sadly I cannot show you photos of the Mad Birdman of Hyde Park (social distancing) but believe me they are hilarious.
Where swans and geese are concerned, you will be a hero if you give them corn flakes. Better for them and you can get the smart price or other budget-priced ones for pennies.
