TOPIC: Victory in Europe Day

Victory in Europe Day 5 Years, 3 Months ago
75 years later, the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany - to the Allies - will be celebrated today, albeit in a muted way, because of coronavirus.

At 9pm tonight, just like her father did at the same time in 1945 - the Queen will speak to the nation, to commemorate the end of WWII.

Some kind of ceremony will be held in most European countries, although Germany have always seen the day as another working one.

Berlin though has declared a one-off holiday, for the first time - and the only fly past will be in Red Square, watched by Putin.

Over 50 million died during the second world war, and a monument/plaque exists in every English town.

Usually with the names of the local servicemen and women - who never returned home.
