It is not about cinema vs boxsetss etc (though I love going still). It is about the dying of our cultural life. What a bleak society it will be with no cinema, theatre, concerts etc.

We need entertainment to survive, sanely.

I fear the whole arts/entertainment industry is one "Bond film" away from widespread collapse due to lockdown panic.

Cinema isn't dead, but in for a long sabbatical. So it's just as well that the film industry has changed dramatically.

Netflix (and its clones) has replaced Hollywood and internet streaming has taken over from cinemas. Movies are even available on your phone.

And home entertainment systems (some with 100" screens, and highly sophisticated) are selling like hot cakes. To audiences that prefer to be at home.

I'm getting lot's of emails from Ents24.com - I am interested getting tickets for a few gigs next year. If however they don't go ahead it's refunds or hold on to tickets for cancelled gigs.

Which is not the point - I think a big theatre in Southampton is now permanently shut down due to this flu; how many will follow suit?

I an an avid gig goer first time in years I have not been to a single one. Please remember and take note; gigs help local tourism especially if people are staying overnight.

I'm not in to film's don't have patience to sit down and glare at a screen. I have always preferred music. I know lot's films fan's and who would be devastated if cinemas were closed and I would be to.

I’ve never been much of a live gig or concert goer, always preferred to listen to recorded music whether it’s on vinyl, cassette, CD, download or streaming... actually it’s all streaming now..

Mind you I used to play in bands and we’d gig around.. but that was ages ago..

I watch so much content on my iPhone nowadays, been rewatching on demand re runs of the TV series 24.

I love YouTube for old TV series and movies.. The ITC series “Danger Man” I particularly like.
One thing I hate about YouTube are the ads.. there are so many now .. it’s so so commercial that I’ll stop watching a movie if there’s ads intercepting it every few minutes.
On music videos they’ll often have two ads as a pre roll followed by two ads at the end of it..

But why GM? You Tube is oppressively heavy with ads I agree. However, while they may host public domain films and everything else pretty much for free, their business does not operate cost free. It wouldn't be available to you at all if they didn't capialise on ad revenue.

Like the Olympics. People moan about the corporate identity; but would you really want the state to fully fund and run it (shudders, deeply...).
