How about the beers Mart?
Kaliber used to be awful but I gather it's OK now.

I'm totally addicted to Waitrose Low (no) alcohol cider. It's dry and refreshing and great.

Having said that, as you know I hardly drink but today I had a Caipirinha... instant memories of Rio when I was interviewing Ronnie Biggs almost 25 years ago.

Alchohol free Beer review. 17 Years, 11 Months ago
The main thing we were looking for in this tasting, were low alcohol beers, that did not have that sour bitter taste that is associated with the products, which tends to make the customer ask for lemonade , lime or blackcurrant cordial to rescue the drink.
We also wanted to follow the current trend of beer with food.
We think we found some very unusual finds.

Cerveja Preta Cheers 0.5% Portugal

A dark porter style beer that tastes like an English mild.
Very rich, would and did, fool even the hardened beer drinker.
Alcohol free doesn`t get any better than this. Put two bottles in a handled pint glass and drink at room temperature. Good with cheese and hearty stews. (Steak even) 5stars.
(The Alcohol Free Shop).
Cerveja Jansen Se Alcool )0/0% Portugal

Very light lager style with quite a bitter aftertaste.
Tastes quite unhealthy. 2 stars

Bavaria Malt Beer 0,0% Holland.

A particularly interesting tipple, very malty and without too many bubbles, making this an ideal wash down for spicy foods.
It does not really fall into the lager category, due to it`s high malt content and we found it best served just under room temperature.
3.5stars
Warsteiner Fresh 0.5% Germany

A name well known for anyone who has travelled throughout Germany.
It`s actually rather a watery beer, but as a result, the underlying bitterness, caused by the removal of the alcohol is less noticeable.
Would go well with a feta, haloumi or salami salad.
Tastes rather like Lowenbrau. 4 stars.

Jupiter from Brussells 0.5%

This beer actually smells quite strongly of alcohol.
Very satisfying, very dry and would easily pass a test as an ordinary beer, which is what we are looking for.
It`s a classic lager and it gets. 5 stars.

Super Bock L.A.

This is not bad at all, but we found you could taste the bottle more than the drink. 2 Stars.

Also tasted were Kaliber, which is made by Guiness and I can`t it stand without blackcurrant in it, Clausthaler (1 star) is ok if served very cold, failing that it has a bitter honey flavour and the ubiquitous Barbican of course we also tried, and to be honest I would have mineral water over that one any day.
All three of these are widely available.

We could not find a single L.A cider, and the only one I am aware of is the Waitrose one, there are many 2-3% alcohol ones but they are too high to be reviewed as technically they could cause tipsiness.

A trivia note, from my doctor, a carton of orange juice left in the fridge for a week can reach 0.05% volume in booziness.

The winner by a mile is Cerveza Preza Cheers though.
A lovely drink.

I can answer the Kaliber one and you are correct, it is a lot nicer and crisper these days, they seem to have the recipe right at last.

I have put the remaining can of Kaliber in the fridge, where I intend to leave it for quite a while then give it another go.
Another thing about the LA beers I noticed over the weekend whilst on a gig, was there was actually none available at the bar whatsoever.
I agreed to do the review before I realised the lack of availability of the products, so it does seem an important area to address and should not neccesarily be a substitute drink for an an alchohol based one.
Much as I adore real ale, I don`t allways have the time to shake off the effect.

As was pointed out by Kev this week, the gorgeous Aime, grape drink, appears to be not available anymore.
The Oasis still fruit drink goes very well with curries though, but at up to a

I don`t find the aspartamene anywhere near as annoying as sodium metabisulphate, that stuff is instantly breathtakingly evil and sadly in many an expensive beer as well, including one organic one, which I won`t name or it will cause a storm in the wrong direction.
Anyway , I digress, I just has Lassis with curry and that is without a doubt the perfect companion to the flavours produced.
I wonder why I was brought up to believe it was Stella?

Lassis... ages since I've had that.

Sometimes I preferred the sweet sometimes the salty - nice to have a choice as I find too much sweetness a bitter experience

...erm ...sorry about that ...I'll get me coat

I was offered either sweet or salty which is of note.
I`m reviewing the meal as I take a quick break, but you will enjoy this bit, and it`s factual.

I asked the guy if I could take a menu home as it makes the reviewing easier, and was given a delivery menu, but ,informed that the restuarant cannot deliver many of the specials to peoples homes, particularly the lobster dish as they havent found a carton that it fits into!
