"Religion of peace" 3 Years, 6 Months ago
Three dead, one elderly victim "virtually beheaded" – Donald J. Trump was absolutely right to ban travel from countries with a big terrorist presence

Never was there a time with:-

Such polarised views (everyone's mad; handling an unknown infection is simple)

We want to leave an international club (EU) - but, because we joined so long ago, we think all the rules should be different, on exit

Immigration is right (everyone's the same). Or wrong - why should they be taking our jobs?

Lockdown/no lockdown is better. 'I'm right' - even though nobody has seen the new virus before

National Debt growing exponentially - and job losses are rising quickly everywhere

All governments - including ours are stupid and incompetent. Only the Queen has the answers!

During my one and a half mile walk through Norwich tonight, I counted 4 people and 3 canines.

From Jan to May 2020 90% of terror incidents on US soil were committed by US born right wing/white supremacist groups. All terror deaths mumber just over 100 the same year. 2019 saw 15 000 firearms deaths in the US. Trump supports the right to arms and arguably fuels these groups with hateful rhetoric; with a steep rise in incidents in the past few years.

Like Covid (far less of a risk than other health conditions, particularly cancer but cigarettes like hand guns in the US, remain legal) one's opions depend on what one focuses on.

And what drives what most people focus on, I wonder?

Atheism is the way of life for me and I love it.

ALL religion is nothing but problems and trouble - why would anyone want to believe a book with zero evidence to back things up and passages are twisted to fit a certain agenda.

While not a believer myself I think it is people who are the trouble, and religion just one of the many pretexts with which to start it....

As to why anyone would believe through faith rather than evidence or reason; choice I suppose.

Jobs have been taken away and lives made unsafe in many places due partly to our military interventions.

Death is also an unseen reality. Why get drawn into the futile and draining attempts of trying to stop the inevitable?

Believing in it or not is missing the point. It has a good message if you skip the bits with all the smiting and begetting.

If you were only being nice in case God disapproved, you wouldn't be a Christian anyway, would you?

Unfortunately Trump can't ban right wing white terrorist groups from flying in. They're already there.

What he can do is stop any further terrorist groups from flying in and making the problem far worse.

I of course accept your distinction between native born and imported murderers.

Though I suspect the distinction would matter little to me if I was the victim.

What Trump can do is address gun ownership and hate rhetoric, starting in the mirror, if he wants to address the biggest problem in terms of people being killed in his country.

Or he could focus on a few refugees and Mexicans and look like he has enormous testicle to the credulous...

Wyot.

There would be less chance of you being a victim if you ban the imported murderers coming in?

Why add to the problem? We're not talking about homegrown supremacists/terrorists we're talking about banning potential terrorists flying in.

Quoting statistics about homegrown terrorists is totally irrelevant to the argument.

OK but how does this work?

Do you have a tier system per country against "terror risk" and ban everyone? If not how do you decide who - beyond where they were born - is too high a risk? As a country in desperate need for foreign born doctors and nurses to man the Nightingale hospitals to get out of lockdown, how far do we take this?

What's your idea of 'right wing' ?

You do know of the 2A or is that too hard for to grasp, do you know the American some congressmen and senators forget about the 16 Admendment and as they do with f

You do know that Chicago has the toughest crime laws but murder is rife and it's mainly black on black ? Go watch the Tatum Report on Youtube and read his blogs. Criminals will obtain guns illegally because they don't care about the law hence being called criminals.

Not sure if you are responding to me or Carlos GM, but the point was about terrorist acts not criminality in general.

While I can't quote you any sources, as a mere observer using common sense, the ready availability of guns - to criminals, priests or dentists - would seem to me to have created a few problems over the pond...

Mind you, all those guns will come in handy for the Civil war America is about to have!

I'll be OK thanks GM. I'm lucky to not be at risk financially cos of lockdown. I know I rant away on here (must stop for 2.0 and let someone else take on my self-appointed role as Robin to JK's Covid Batman!) but it is at an intellectual level of disbelief at the ongoing tide of stupidity, rather than being stressed out personally.

But I have reached an end to what I can say now and will shut up on Covid unless there is anything new to observe (though I know this is not where you were coming from). I keep busy and positive.

My best wishes as well to you, other posters and readers on here as we enter 2.0

It is going to be a challenging Winter but this will all pass folks.
