I think a contributory factor to the COVID-19 mess is that our society, on the whole, doesn’t handle death and grief very well at all. There are tendencies to get stuck in fears of life, death and dying. If the grieving process isn't handled well, there is a tendency for grief to take over and rule forever. A friend of mine in childhood used to say that the real tragedy is not death but a miserable and unhappy life. A heartwarming story I read earlier this year reminded me of his words.
