TOPIC: I've finally subscribed to Netflix
#203140
I've finally subscribed to Netflix 3 Years, 5 Months ago
After several friends tipped The Queen's Gambit to me and I decided I really should watch The Crown, I have subscribed.
Not as easy as you'd think. My TV's are a particular brand (Sony) that, for no good reason, cannot get Netflix (or, irritatingly, iPlayer).
Not a big problem as my excellent laptops - MacBook Pro - are often my source for TV (and even films). But I do need external speakers (I'm SO deaf) or, at least, headphones (which I don't like; the best ones make my ears sweat and I cannot stand the "in ear" buds).
However I then discover (after contacting Netflix) that Macs cannot download series. Why ever not? It's bonkers.
Nobody these days can want to tune in once a week at a specific time. Or catch up if there's no Wifi (on a plane or train; or in the middle of the Sahara desert).
So I tracked down a service (free, they say, until you start trying to use it, at which point they strongly suggest various subscriptions, some quite expensive) which downloads to "the cloud" and can then (takes forever) downloads FROM "the cloud" to my laptops where they sit until I want to watch them.
This process takes hours.
So expect my views on both (and more) LONG after they have finished airing (which will annoy you; it certainly irritates me)!
I may even now try Game of Thrones.
Should I bother?

I am about to watch it from the beginning too, so you will have an audience of one.

I think I need to somehow get it on the television though, because I hate watching films on the laptop.

Mind you, my laptop might be doomed. That little swine chihuahua of mine deliberately weed on it last night, in a fit of spite.

I'm with the dog; I admire dogs over computers any day. Likewise over cats.

There's something wrong - if viewers can't find a worthwhile program on Netflix, it's so enormous.

At £6 per month - fantastic value for money, with 200 million members all over the world.

Just over 20 years old - it has now (with some others) virtually replaced Hollywood, with the 'Netflix Original'.

Yes, but you like completely different things to me.

I am looking forward to The Crown and the Ricky Gervais thing, but it is mostly things I have already seen on TV or couldn't be bothered with.
Time will tell.

Not really. Netflix have produced over 1,500 originals, so far - with more than that planned.

And currently have about 400 completely new programs in the pipeline.

Over 150 of these will appear this year - with new projects starting monthly.

Their amazing Wikipedia is worth a look, to see what they've accomplished - in such a short time.

Oh! Am I doing it wrong? It sounds like there is a whole load of it I cant see.

When I click on the icon I see four rows of series and films, and I cant see how to look at anything else.
I will get my cousin to fiddle with it. Thank you.

Subscribe to Amazon Prime which is worth having for the complete South Park amongst other things.

Still buy a lot of physical media, especially the 4K discs which in some cases are a revelation.

Dont think i would ever go over to only streaming.

Recommended 4k discs

Wizard Of Oz

Its A WonderFul Life

Original Spiderman Trilogy

2001

Planet Earth 2 and Blue Planet 2

Demo worthy discs all of them

We had Netflix for a month and found nothing I enjoyed the films I do like I saw back in the day.
