This is just another brilliant Danish production (check out the silences; the lack of cutaways) but one aspect in the true life killing of Kim Wall really struck home; nowhere do they say the name of her killer, not even in the credits. Even sequences in his workplace make sure there are no shots of nameplates. This makes it even better (none of those interview sequences - results simply mentioned by the police in meetings afterwards). The tension is incredible but the responsibility is magnificent. Why turn these loonies into martyrs? As Maggie did in the 80s with terrorists - no oxygen of publicity. No "fame" for future thrill seekers. This is a tremendous series anyway but this minor detail, to me, makes not a milestone.
I hate it when the press print pages of the life story of the latest inadequate twerp seeking the company of seventy two virgins or who has shot up his old school. Always so predictable and yes publicity is the major goal. I think this differs a bit with the IRA who didn't seem to seek personal fame, judt furtherence of their cause. I don't think Maggie's stance achieved much either way there.
Oh I think "Don't give the oxygen of publicity" to the IRA was a major factor in killing off the movement. I shall never forget Gerry Adams' sneaky high pitched queen voice. Mocking works. But do watch The Investigation. Danish film making is on a high. The Guilty is a MUST.
