Lockdowns till summer 4 Years, 6 Months ago

It looks like they are laying the groundwork for lockdown until summer.
Ridiculous, of course. But if we are stuck with this insanse response, and locked into its idiotic logic, I would rather we did just keep this going until summer or there is no end in sight in 2021.
Don't return to confusing tiers, open up for an Easter party, then lockdown again. Don't open schools up to spread the virus far and wide. Just tell us now the earliest will be summer, and don't lift restrictions at all.
As vaccines kick in and hospital admissions drop, concentrate on the tens of thousands of lockdown cancer victims waiting for screenings and treatmemt. Try and save some lives there before we open again.
Open up or lockown till the sun is blazing but be clear and decisive NOW - not a week before Easter.
At the same time, prepare the country that post vacccine we can't afford to lockdown again, it is not going away and some deaths remain inevitable. In other words give definite timeframes for people, schools and the few businesses that will remain, reassurance post summer that this won't go on forever and prepare the country to grow up after a year of being terrorised and infantalised by media hype and Gov propoganda.

We should just carry on before the Covid, I thought masks and toilet paper were the key battling it before the vaccine was rolled out.

We cant just carry on like before though, can we? We are stuck with trying to eliminate it or wait until the vaccines are completely effective, otherwise we are denying everybody over fifty, and everyone with (sometimes minor) health conditions safe hospital treatment, because this is where a lot of the infection starts.
Vaccinated people are still dying, even when infected AFTER the two weeks wait. It is not a guarantee.
What a palaver!
(or we could have just enforced safety measures from the start)

If only this huge over reaction had never taken place GM, I agree. The Gov are now though trapped by their own "logic".
That's why I think with all these emerging variants we will be tiering and shutting all year on and off unless we shut down 100% now until summer.
If we must be made subject to this farce - do it properly. The longer this goes on the less likely the Gov is to admit they made a mistake and change their response. So this will never now happen.
Most businesses and millions of people currently on furlough are now totally fucked anyway, as is the economy, so there is no point taking this into condideration
at this stage.
Because of the as yet unquantifiable self-inflicted damage the UK has committed, the reasons for not locking down are vanishing by the hour.
Even though it is transparantly a pointless thing to do in terms of health, and always has been, if a full lockdown to summer is what it now takes to allow this Gov to stop destroying the country beyond the spring, sadly so be it.
Amen

Lockdowns appear to have worked extremely well in Australia (Perth just went into a strict 4 day lockdown).
We no longer have to wear masks though.
But conditions are different I guess. Although everyone lives in cities they are more separated by space ( Sydney goes on for frigging ever).
Terrible for industry of course except on-line companies who are booming but the travel industry is in melt down. Bondi Beach practically survives on tourism and especially backpackers in the 10,000s now MIA. And it spreads as farmers who survive as backpackers touring the country from area to area and working along the way beg for local workers to replace them.
But few locals can afford to pack up and move to a country town for 6 weeks. It's all very complicated.
And now the new matter: as 10,000s work from home corporations are finding this is far cheaper in the long run and it's likely to become far more prevalent which could mean 100s of empty office space going begging.
Just as in Bangkok where property developers went on an orgy of skyscraper building..now you can't move for fabulous 5 star hotels rolling out the red carpet at a pittance for peasants like moi .
