Hedda (JK and others) - you may find this analysis of Covid/Lockdown from a left political viewpoint (and an Aussie to boot) interesting. And (perhaps I am hoping too much Hedda!?) persuasive...

leftlockdownsceptics.com/f/the-virus-lockdown-and-the-left

This sums up really well in one place a lot of views I have come to about the panicdemic.

Yes it is tiresome that so many people do not understand what the past year has been about and can't shake their mindless reactionary responses.

We are now looking at face masks in schools with there literally being not a scrap of evidence they are needed (infections in schools don't run higher than the false positives expected) or will achieve anything.

It is one thing the modest spike in "died with" deaths now ending with spring, better treatment and vaccines (lockdowns have been irrelevant as all the comparative data shows at just a glance) and another ending the hysterical, quasi-religious death cult thinking that has arisen.

I can't say I agree.

I'm having his Socialist credentials verified and have sent a memo to HQ that perhaps a short period in a Josef Stalin Re-Education Camp, preferably the one located at (the still contaminated) Maralinga,(Australia being the only country the British have bombed with Nuclear weapons) and hopefully that will bring him to his senses.

That said- very hard for me to judge as we have sailed through this pandemic with not an awful lot of angst as compared to GB.
Not sure why..I think it's the actual physical distance between people.

Lockdowns have been brief. Effective? who knows

Certainly businesses have suffered but many have actually profited via government handouts which still continue with my paltry pension receiving yet another boost and one off payment this week which I will dutifully spend.

I live in Bondi and it's been very hard on all the small local business, cafes, restaurants etc. And really awful for the 1000s of young people who rely on mostly temporary jobs as the rent bills still roll in (evictions are banned at present but you still owe the money). Then again as Winter approaches many close down anyway.

However Summer saw very few tourists and the 1000s upon 1000s of lovely UK & Irish backpackers who usually vomit on the promenade pavement have been absent and replaced by locals looking fairly bewildered as all pubs were closed.

On the plus side, I was able to- 3 times this year, get a spot at my favourite and beautiful swimming pool at Bondi Beach when normally you literally cannot get an inch of space as Japanese tourists pack the joint. Not a one to be seen for miles.

It must be pretty depressing in the UK with lockdowns.
I know nothing of course (JK even less and I mean that kindly )

The pool: (I'm the one in the pink bikini)
