Am I alone in finding it astonishing that it has taken so long for this to dawn on "experts"? It struck me over a year ago that a respiratory disease would be even more lethal to fat people and to smokers. All that fat, all that poison, affects lungs. Common sense. Doh!
It has been known from the start, but they probably haven't emphasised it until we are "safely" coming out of it, because frightening or criticising obese people has never ever helped anyone lose weight, and there has been no support for emotional/mental health issues which go alongside, while it has all been going on. (not much at the best of times either!)
THAT would have REALLY overwhelmed the NHS.

They did mention it early on but then stopped in favour of a general terror campaign.
I do see your point Honey - it is a difficult one - but I think adults should be given the facts and allowed to make their own decisions. If I had a health condition that put me in the "9 out of 10 deaths to come from Covid" category, I would have wanted to know about it - and very clearly.
Of course they would never have got the majority to stick to a year of repression if they had realised that Covid was not a risk to them; but this is only an argument if lockdown has been needed or effective. Neither of which is true.
They should - a year ago - have said Diabetics, the Elderly (especially in Care Homes), the Obese and smokers should self isolate and take great care not to catch this. Instead of throwing billions down the drain with mass lockdowns & panic, they should have spent millions protecting the vulnerable. And in finding a vaccine.

Yep spot on. They were too general in approach and it was the wrong approach. Many have lost their lives needlessly as a result.

But they did. All those apart from smokers were meant to either shield or be extra careful.
I am puzzled about them saying that forty percent of the over eighties have ignored advice and mixed with people indoors (Gasp!) in the weeks after their vaccination.
But for most, wouldn't that be Christmas, when they were told it was ok?
