Which would be safer in London these days - to be female or to be a black teenage boy?

Why just London ?

Maybe London should be it's own country just build the M25 higher and slightly wider.

Or more broadly - vulnerable. Exposed to attack and harm, physically and emotionally.

Only the privileged (wealthy; secure) are usually exempt - and the category includes the young, disadvantaged, minority groups, old, immigrants etc., etc.

Vigilance with common sense, is essential for all - particularly when those tasked with protecting us, are often lacking and inept.

Revolting revolting revolting that people are only angry now that it is a sweet girl who has been murdered, as if other people who have been murdered have brought it on themselves by being stupid, poor, married to a monster, a slut, a prostitute etc.

I wish the man with the banner proclaiming "She was only walking home" would shove it sideways.

Why are people laying into the Police for doing their job on Clapham Common this evening?

They didn't enact the lockdown legislation - the Government did. Yes, what they are doing is heavy handed, ridiculous and pointless; but this is what our elected representatives decreed as a required response to a perceived public health crisis.

It is also what everyone who supports the lockdown legislation - and lockdowns - supports. How can anyone who supports the lockdown not be in favour of it? The lockdown requires what is happening.

This evening has demonstrated that we are turning into a Police state. But the Police did not mount a coup. I wonder how many of Police wished to act like this? I wonder - to jump to the other recent discussions on here - how many of them support "you will be believed" etc and the behaviours this can lead them to?

The Police can be a convenient scapegoat for media-driven Governments.

It's them being hypocrites -if they were burgled or assaulted no doubt they will call the police.

During the Rodney King riots (I was there) people were saying "fuck the police" and playing N.W.A at the same time when looters challenged they said "Get the police".

Same thing with BLM and Antifa riots in America at the moment.

Lockdown is an effort (perhaps misguided) to counteract the virus. To attempt to link it - and its supporters - to the events (also misguided) at Clapham Common, is disingenuous and nonsensical.

Oh God Margave such stupidity. No lockdown would mean no ban on gatherings and no police violence. They only need the slightest excuse to beat the shit out of people. It's why many of them joined up.

I remember the Surrey cop in charge of breaking my door down (cost £15K) telling me this was "far more exciting" than his previous career as an accountant.

Margrave under what legislation do you imagine Police held down, man handled and bundled off peacefully protesting women?

Please reference it.

You continue to want to have it every way. How can you have a lockdown and not remove the democratic right to protest in public? Three people can gather anywhere and say they are protesting the lockdown and you would support them being removed.

Is one protest more valid than another and who chooses? You?

Whether a minority of police enjoyed dragging women off is probable (and being pursued by JK elsewhere); but my point is that they are enforcing Gov legislation.

Patel is such a hypocrite jumping up and down and ordering an enquiry. She wants it every way; like you. How long until your next post listing the dire economic consequences of the lockdown measures you support arrives, with no admission or apparent self-awareness that people who think like you are responsible.

You and the millions like you are complicit with what happened yesterday. Like Patel, take some bloody responsibility.

It is because some people who were there say that the police kettled them together into small areas, going against the whole "point" of a gathering ban and guaranteeing disruption.

I want to reclaim Chenye Walk. Lived there for 6 months once. Lovely.
So handy to Kings Road.
Very near Mick Jagger's house. He stopped me once when walking past and accused me of saying to(the distinguished London publisher) John Blake of The Sun newspaper that there were rats in his garden and it had upset Jerry ( Jerry Murdoch).
By an amazing stroke of luck an enormous rat (they came out at low tide) could be spotted scuttling long the opposite footpath.
I pointed and said "I rest my case" and departed poste haste.
(it wasn't me who fed the tale to Blakey )

If twitter had been around during world war two, I wonder if idiots would have turned their lights on during a blackout so that they can show 'solidarity' and 'take a stand' about whatever 'issue' buzzed into their heads that day? The lack of intelligence, couple with a super-abundance of self-regard, is depressing.

Yes they were trying to stay on top of, control and disburse an entirely illegal demonstration. It shouldn't have been illegal; but it is not up to Police what is illegal or not. Blaming them is like blaming Orville - and not Keith Harris - if Orville used the f-word on TV. Patel's hand is stuck up the Met's arse but she has retracted it swiftly in this case!

The gathering was illegal but they went ahead anyway and then moaned when the police tried to break it up. There can't be one law for militant women and one for everyone else.

There have been far more women who have died of Covid in one year than have been snatched from the streets in the past fifty, I would imagine. They could have lit candles on Zoom but no, they had to go out and stand there cheek by jowl during lockdown and think that being women excuses them.

When I pointed this out on Twitter I was accused of being a man.

Well the blitz was a dangerous time where one could get killed so I doubt anyone would have done that; but Covid presents no danger worth weighing up to the women at the demo...

Well, if they could have broken it up without making people breathe on each other it would have been nice, but I expect they know more about that than me.

As long as the response is just as vigorous to EVERY gathering in future, I am perfectly happy with it.

And the next time some Dick thinks it is perfectly ok to stand with hundreds of others while clapping the NHS, I expect her to be immediately cuffed and dragged along the floor.

The family didn’t want a vigil etc.

There’s no such thing as peaceful protest or demo they all end up in chaos.

My granddad was walking home from the pub during The Blitz. I have no idea what he was doing In England especially in London.

Why? Where was he supposed to be?
Not everyone followed the rules in the blitz and not all the rules made sense, like thinking a tiny torch would get you bombed but the massive flashlight the Air raid warden carried was invisible to Germans.

I don't care if people gather or not, but I just KNOW that a lot of that crowd pouring covidy globlets on each other are the same ones who were furiously clapping the NHS and telling us to "stay the F home".

I'm going to stick up for the many decent women and men who spend their working days trying to keep us safe while putting themselves in harms way.

26 Police Officers were assaulted (spat at pushed, punched) by violent women on Clapham Common at the weekend.

"Damned if they do damned if they don't." The chair of the Police Federation asks urgently for help from politicians who have put them in an "impossible" position by having to police Covid regulations:

metfed.org.uk/26-officers-assaulted-metr...ederation-statement/

Will this make a headline? Is it a good enough story? Do we have room enough in our minds anymore for nuance? Or is just "police baddies women who don't want to be raped goodies" level stupidity?
