the word I hate.. 4 Years, 4 Months ago
triggered..trigger

Can't bear it but it's much loved by alleged victims.

I see it currently being used on Twitter in threads about the Australian Attorney General Christian Porter, the subject of a raging controversy after he was accused by a (now deceased) lady of raping her when he was 17 and she 16.

Many Twitterers (Twits ?) claim they are being "triggered" by the whole thing. Why they are on twitter then is anyone's guess. Masochists? Maybe being "triggered" gives them a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Then the CEO of a huge law firm sent a "triggered" email to 2500 employees criticizing a senior Partner (libel expert) for taking on Christian Porter as a client.

She said she had been "triggered" by the act and said there was help for any staff who were triggered as well.
This in turn triggered the law firm's Board who hastily met and said CEO was basically packed off permanently that day. Awful..not only fired but still triggered.

# Twitterers are also being "triggered" by the CEO being sacked and claiming she's a high profile female being sacked by men (ignoring there are 2 powerful female lawyers on the Board who fired her..no idea if they've been triggered by the whole affair).

One report I've lost actually said worried customers of the law firm were contacting them in fear the law firm's internal communications were not secure with one lady saying she had been "triggered" by the thought her big money divorce may be affected.

# I always thought Trigger was a horse Roy Rogers rode .

There are others I hate : don't get me started on "wow factor" beloved of real estate TV shows. Plus "ticks all the boxes"

Many more as well..maybe you have your own.

Can we please leave out Roy Rogers?

He was harmless and a huge role model even for me.

It's in the same league as 'reach out'. Don't people phone each other, or contact them, or go round to see them any more?

Every time I see things like 'They will be reaching out to her' I try not to grit my teeth.

I'm afraid writing this has triggered me and I would like you to reach out!

I always say “contact” because it can mean call, visit or text etc, reach out makes think of doctors who are helping rape victim’s etc.

I cant decide which one is more triggering for me. I get the red mist for both.

Also "I care about you", and "Be there for you" make me shudder.

"That's my bad..."

Always makes me assume the user has recently come round after having been shot with a stun gun.

I would quite like to shoot anyone who says it.

They are of course, perfectly entitled to shoot me when I snap back "Your bad what?"

I hate the terms "sick" for something that's good and "Blud or blood" meaning friend.

Rapey. Meaning a bit letchy, or Robin thicke for singing "Blurred Lines".

It is really really really not the same thing, and trivialises actual rape.

Yes, or it can refer to what we call "inappropriate" behaviour, for instance, the song "Baby it's cold outside" is described as "rapey".

Re:the word I hate.. 4 Years, 4 Months ago
Now Mr Porter has launched defamation proceedings against the national broadcaster the ABC, it's "4 Corners" program and one of it's journalists Louise Milligan.

Milligan wrote a damning book about Cardinal Pell from "the victim's viewpoint" which many think prompted the Victorian Police to prosecute him. She wasn't too happy when Pell was exonerated in the Supreme Court. So 2 weeks after that matter she ran a new startling exclusive on "4 Corners" (it can be a superb show) revealing "new Pell victims speak out". Alas they were old Pell victims whose cases had already been booted out of court.
Ms Milligan is from Ireland and Convent educated but she's not happy with the Catholic Church.

Part of Porter's libel suit details how Milligan's show created a Twitter pile on which added to the libels.
Needless to say the same twitter Mob are piling in again and basically helping to prove Porter's case for him.

They've rallied around with many saying "let's set up a GoFundMe to pay for Milligan's lawyers".

"We've got your back Louise" dozens of them are screeching pledging $10 here & $20 there seemingly oblivious that Ms Milligan is
1. indemnified by the ABC as normal and
2. we already pay for her ABC lawyers as the ABC is fully taxpayer funded.

Others have seized upon a well known journalist and pal of Porters who dared to write a tale about "trial by media" as he deleted a few Tweets, I think mainly because the dozens of abusive replies became a bit too much.

"He must have been tipped off" they chorus seemingly oblivious to the fact that (see above) they also screeched like banshees that Mr Porter had consulted the countries top libel lawyer which, call me crazy, call me Doris or call me Triggered but I reckon that may indicate proceedings were afoot.

## They're floundering about attacking Porter's barristers (lawyer attacks are in vogue) as his 2 briefs are 2 top female libel QCs who make even High Court judges tremble at their sight.

Meanwhile dozens and dozens of the Twitterati are thrilled as they see Porter facing imminent demolition because "the ABC and Milligan will rip him to shreds" because the ABC is the man.

Not sure any of them noticed just one month ago the ABC and the very same "4 Corners" program had to shell out bigly to a Chinese gentleman they accused of being a Communist spy.

Attorney-General Christian Porter has commenced defamation proceedings in the Federal Court against the ABC and journalist Louise Milligan.

Wonder what people did before the internet when they were "triggered" in a conversation?

Some more:

"blablabla, end of", "could/would/should/must of done something", "loose" instead of "lose", "their" instead of "there" (and vice versa) and the Brexiteer special "clothes are boarders".

What is it about 'bare' as in 'I can't bare it'? This one is becoming so common that its usage will soon overtake the proper 'bear'.

Don't get me started on 'viscous dog', 'What a load of dribble you talk'and 'rediculous'.

"My truth"

It is ridiculous. MY truth is that the earth is flat because I only see flat bits.
It doesn't make it true.

good one Honey.

I hate it.

But it's a good one for say, selling your tale of Satanic abuse to a tabloid as it basically says "my truth" could be a pack of lies so don't hold me to anything I'm about to divulge.

Surprised that's not used in court more often by a someone in the witness box when a clever barrister uncovers they are lying..

"well it's my truth"
..burst into tears and turn to M'Lud sat at the bench and plead "Stop him your honour, he's triggering terrible memories of years of abuse by Sir Jimmy Savile at the BBC".
