Madeleine McCann's parents 'hang on to hope' of seeing her again in poignant message ahead of 18th birthday
Can't believe she'd soon have turned 18.
The anti-McCanns and perfect parents are out in force commenting on articles on this subject on Facebook. Droning on and on about how the McCanns shouldn't have left their children alone (as if they wouldn't have realised that by now), blaming the parents for her disappearance, saying they're sick of hearing about her, why all the fuss about this child when so many others are missing, can only be because the McCanns have money, etc. So much hatred and envy.
Is it just me or didn't the McCanns do something stupid but understandably stupid by probably having their guard down on holiday and feeling a false sense of security at a seemingly family friendly resort and because their friends were doing the same thing with their children? It seems to me that doing something stupid is what people sometimes do and doing stupid things on holiday and in groups probably also isn't unheard of.

It does no good harassing already wretched parents, but the reason some people are annoyed is because..
1) Other families, maybe in dire straights with no child care who leave older children while they go to work, have their children removed and are prosecuted. Leaving them to go on a piss up seems so much worse.
2) The McCanns (I am not attacking them. They were obviously off their rockers afterwards, and people in distress say stupid things) did not take responsibility, and made statements like " If she got hurt when we were out, how is that our fault?" and because they downplayed the distance to the tapas bar. It was not "like sitting in your own garden" unless your own garden is several minutes walk away with a swimming pool in the way!
3) Because they don't understand why they were not charged with child neglect even though this would be usual in Portugal.
If they were shown in court to have been negligent in leaving the child unattended, they could not, at a later date, be convicted of killing the child in the same time frame, if they had been shown to be elsewhere.

How comes we only hear about Maddie; despite thousands of children vanish?
Charlene Downes never gets a mention these days! Was she chopped up for kebab meat or is that a conspiracy ?

What a horrible case that was. That was another case that collapsed because of mistreatment by the police.

I understood that they were regularly checking on their sleeping children rather than abandoning them for the day, and having dinner at a restaurant.

Blaming the McCanns for the harm done to their child seems to me like blaming someone for getting raped by deciding to walk through a park at night. They made a poor decision and gave the abductor the opportunity but surely whatever has happened to Madeleine is the abductor's/accomplices' fault. Likening the resort to their own garden may have been a reference to how secure they felt. Some people also have big gardens.

The McCanns aren't to blame for not being charged with child neglect.

My opinions, which I have NEVER commented on in public, are based on the police statements, not media gossip.
I am just explaining why, if you don't understand about the neglect charge, it makes it look like special treatment, and why, combined with the poor doolally McCanns not making sense at first, it made people suspicious of a cover up.
I think it is fine to be angry where there is non cooperation and obstruction in a missing child case, and fine to be annoyed at all the false accusations, but it is below the belt to direct it at grieving parents.

How on earth did the 'abductor' get in the hotel room ? Even the seedy and cheap motels have solid doors.Motel 6 are not cheap as they once were but they have decent security.
I never had issues in hotels in South Africa and it only 3 stars hotel I stay; only because money runs out very quickly in SA especially in Johannesburg, shops are expensive, yet cheaper than UK. Port Elizabeth is stunning and worth every penny not had any issue's there either.
I go to London I get asked for money as I exit any tube or train station and I have had my wallet pinched.
It wasn't a hotel room, Greenman, it was a flat on a busy road outside the complex and the patio doors were apparently left open.
This shows where it was, and how easy it would be to walk in and out unnoticed.
Ignore the text.

What sort of issues were you expecting? Wherever you go you wouldn't expect your children to be abducted, surely?

left them alone? they were only across the courtyard.
My parents left me alone so many times (glad to get rid of them).
Once I recall I was alone in the house & my favourite aunt turned up in a huge new American convertible and took me for a drive saying how terrible my parents were (but I suspect they had pre-arranged this. I was her favourite & I think she was currying favour & who could blame her? )
Another time in the country they left me and my brother in the house and he put me in the back of a delivery man's truck when he wasn't looking. He only discovered me in the next village, giggling away .
Can you imagine the charges the poor man would be on today?
I hate the way the Witch Finder Generals accused the McCann parents. They still do.
