for the hundredth time I'm sure Paul Scofield's performance is the Best Acting display ever. Likewise his King Lear was the best stage performance I ever saw. He was the Boss of acting.

'I enjoy the loss of myself' - said PS, which helped him to become the embodiment of Lear and Hamlet. With a unique slant on every character he betrayed.
Refused a Knighthood offer - and just one Oscar because Hollywood failed to entice him. Never left Sussex, where he died.
Primarily a stage actor - of the old Shaftesbury Avenue style - his interpretation of the Bard was ground breaking.
