Disgraceful? 4 Years, 2 Months ago
It is media that is disgraceful considering false allegations to be true just because they are a better story.

For anyone who thinks this attitude is a US phenomenon...

He is to play a detective who is investigating claims of paedophilia.

These are levelled against a blind artist, to be played by Nero himself. The plot shows the claims to be baseless.

Good on Franco Nero for addressing this subject in a film and employing Kevin Spacey. Wonder if the film is being made for Kevin Spacey's sake? Or could Nero have had experience of false allegations himself?

Spacey’s A-list career has collapsed under a flood of public accusations of sexual misconduct. In October 2017, “Rent” star Anthony Rapp alleged in a BuzzFeed interview that Spacey, when he was 26, had made unwanted advances toward Rapp when he was 14. The BuzzFeed article alleged that in 1986 Spacey “picked Rapp up, placed him on his bed, and climbed on top of him.”

Spacey responded to Rapp’s allegation via tweet: “I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”

Maybe would have been better if he had made an outright denial, not conceded that it was possible he behaved that way.

I think it is better to tell the truth Jo, otherwise you are entering False Accuser territory. Rolf Harris could have claimed never to have had a relationship with his daughter's friend but the truth was - that he had, after she was 18. Yes the jury might have found him innocent if he'd lied about it but isn't that a shocking indictment about the situation rather than a fair conclusion?

Rolf Harris couldn't have denied that, as he admitted to it in a letter. But in a "he said, he said" situation as with Spacey, I don't understand why he wouldn't have made an outright denial, unless the accusers weren't lying.

I suspect, Jo, he is simply telling the truth. It has been known for years that Spacey behaved disgracefully. I'm sure he is aware that, much younger and drunk, he may well have over stepped the line. Rather than deny it and brand an accuser a liar (not all accusers lie; and not even every one exaggerates), he tells the truth as he sees it.

Lots of things have been "known for years" and turn out to be bollocks.
