Djokovic vs Nadal is basically the final; Nadal almost never loses in Paris - he owns the French Open. Novak has been playing incredibly but seems this year to keep falling over. I have to root for him though. The other is my current favourite, Alex Zverev, against young Tsitsipas from Greece. So this afternoon and evening will be a glued to ITV4 for me. I want Novak vs Alex in the final; I suspect it will be Nadal vs Tsitsipas.

Recent years my hotel in Paris is right next to Roland Garros; all the players stay there; it's impossible to get a room during the French Open.

Zverev vs Tsitsipas - good game but neither stands a chance of beating Rafi or Novak, I'd say. Into Set 5.

Well I have to say - very second division tennis from both the 5th and 6th seeds. I'll be very surprised if the next match doesn't make this look like third division.

And I hate to be personal but I must admit; Nadal has won, for many years, the Bad Hair in Tennis Award.

Nadal and Djokovic are ten years older than Zverev and Tsitsipas - and ten times better players.

And at the end of a gripping night; the two top players are way above the standard of the young pretenders. But it can all change on Sunday. Go Novak. As for Women's tennis - who cares. The very few exceptions to the rule that women are not built to play tennis (Martina; Billy Jean; Serena) come along every ten years or so but most of the squeaks and shrieks coming from the diaphragm built to hold and develop babies and not to hit balls illustrate the absurdity, like football. Nothing wrong with females playing some sports; just don't expect them to be as good at it as men; likewise don't expect men to be much good at having babies.

I don't think anyone expects female sports to be as "good" as male sports in terms of speed or power: but as a spectacle of skill pitting the best in a "class" together (as well as the character and grit shown) it is equally entertaining and - if any sport ultimately is - worth watching. Like disabled games; which I also enjoy watching.

Sports is baseline about character, skill & determination. But yes I could do without the noises emitted by lady tennis players....
