Susan Michie, thinks that we should wear masks and social distance for ever, regardless of lockdown ending, and one of her reasons is that if we see a danger we take steps to eliminate it, like seat belts and picking up dog dirt.
Except... There is no real advantage, hygiene speaking, in picking up dog dirt, because the bacteria, and more importantly, worms and eggs that can cause serious illness (very rarely) are LEFT BEHIND.
If there is a steaming pile of dogshit on the pavement, I can SEE IT and step around it.
If you wipe it away, I cant see what you have left on the ground, and might unknowingly ingest it.
(obviously I wouldn't, because I assume the floor to be dirty and act accordingly)
I am not suggesting we leave it in places that are a nuisance, but lets not pretend it is for hygiene!
The same as there being no real advantage to MOST masks..
If as a society we seek to take all steps we can to eliminate all perceived dangers life won't be worth living. Reductio ad absurdum is illustrative: we would no longer conceive in case the child did not come to term; even before we consider all the mortal threats to life that human could face. We have with the talk of enduring restrictions (with no one dying) lost our collective minds to this worldview.
