Yes. We know, because it is the main thing here.
Fortunately, most of the vulnerable are vaccinated so it doesn't matter much.

The problem we have, is that every time the virus is transmitted you risk it varying, and it might develop a resistance to the vaccines.

Medically speaking, it would be better to vaccinate children too, to prevent mutations and to protect people in other countries from it, but obviously nobody wants to vaccinate healthy children if it can be helped.

The dominant strain in the UK is already the delta variant and no one is dying (to any statistically significant extent). We know the vaccines (two doses) provide about 95% protection against hospitalisation with delta.

Apply some thought and you will see that this variant has no chance of proving more lethal than other variants at work previously in an unvaccinated UK.

This is not true. The claim conflates a priority date with an application date for a patent.

A priorty date can refer to the earliest filing date in a family of related patents. In 2015 Rothschild registered a priority date for the "family" of a biometric data testing approach that could apply to any virus that comes along.

It was only on May 17th 2020 that they registered the application that specified this approach for Covid 19.

The way it is set out is quite hard to follow, but to me they they are only saying the 2020 patent was a continuation of a patent originated in 2015. I think Reuters are saying the same thing. The disagreement is about prior knowledge of Covid & planning.

They seem very hung up on semantics - but are not denying that the word "covid" was only used in the 2020 patent I think? They read a lot into the earlier patents being a sign of intent that this technology would be used for Covid in particular and knew this in 2015. But I still can't see any evidence that establishes this.

It seems to me the likeliest explanation is the patent was adapted to deal with Covid; not that Covid was known about & planned and an originating patent taken out in 2015.
