TOPIC: Read the small print

There seems to be a huge wave of hospital Covid admissions for those under 45. Not vaccinated (why?). And, in the small print, over 60% with "underlying health conditions" of which the main one is obesity.
No surprise. I reckon most of the rest suffer from "media increased panic".
But I've always felt obesity is madness.
The strain it must put on both the heart and the respiratory system is potentially enormous.
Being fat and unhealthy is a far bigger cause of death than stupid Covid.
As are smoking and drinking.
As is being gullible.

I think I read somewhere that half of the people with covid in hospital were admitted with something else and caught it there.
Same as ever.

I have long thought our rulers have done millions a disservice by pretending Covid is an equal-ops killer.

They have been happy to deliberately frighten everyone into lockdown adherence, but not to frighten the obese into losing weight, or discuss the NHS not being able to cope if people don't eat differently and move more. Something that would save millions of lives. "Cut the chips. Save the NHS." Don't clap the NHS: "Walk for the NHS".

Being obese is fucking depressing. However having a good diet, decent workout routine will get rid of the fat. But it takes time, I was very overweight in the last decade due to free drinks, meals and no exercise. I didn't need doctor's or a gym membership.

I worked out a diet plan and got cheap workout equipment to use at home stuff from TK Maxx and Argos. My BMI is in the middle so I still have a long way to go.

However I do feel and look better. I am more confident in myself. I have a bit of belly still but we all know belly fat is the hardest thing to lose but I am getting there.

It pisses me off when people moan and don't do anything. Resistance bands are about £3 and do wonders for the upper arms, Resistance tubes from TK Maxx are brilliant also I have bought and use different types of them. Argos sell cheap dumbells and do deliver.

Also my partner loves shopping so walking around with her 3 days a week does wonders.

I've always thought of myself as a Fat Old Queen (even when I was young and slender) but I try to be sensible and look OK for 76.

The middle of your healthy range? Unless you are exceptionally slender, that is probably about right, so I would concentrate on healthy eating and a brisk walk at this stage.
Well done you!

Disclaimer.
Sitting here giving advice while very overweight, unable to exercise at the moment, pissed off, six weeks into the flu and exhausted, and addicted to ice cream!

It's all that swimming JK!

I had put a stone and a half on over 2020 lockdown, but have managed to shift nearly all of it over the last few months with walks up and down The Thames. Long (2 hrs or 90 mins) and fast (just over 4 mph). I listen to audio books while I walk.

I'm now back in the middle of healthy range for my height. I got the idea from reading an interview with Stephen Fry; who lost 5-6 stone this way. It is just as good for mental health as physical health - I hate gyms and they shut my swimming pool so really glad I stumbled on that idea!

Honey - I do know it can be very difficult, esp if you can't shift an illness. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I read that bloke lost weight and saved his eye sight from diabetes - just by walking in the front room with walking tour videos on Youtube.

The secret: move a lot, eat things from the sea and a bit of meat, veg & fruit. Keep your mind uncluttered and peaceful. Smile a lot. Try and think generously. Forgive; yourself & others.
