It strikes me that the first thing Humanity needs to do, regarding dealing with Covid, is to decide whether the media coverage of the Wuhan outbreak was accurate or exaggerated. If accurate, many of the ways to deal with it (lockdowns, masks etc) make sense. Like TB and polio, it has to be stopped. It is like EBOLA. A killer plague.
If, on the other hand, media hyped up the Wuhan reality in order to make a great story, then the answer is "How do we live with it, treat it, cope - as we did with Flu?".
In which case the over reaction has been stupid. If we cannot control or destroy it, we should concentrate on protecting the vulnerable, treating the infected, finding effective vaccines and giving them to the needy (as we do with flu) but NOT to everyone (those who don't need it should not be vaccinated; like over use of anti biotic, there can be bad consequences). And be sensible, watching it evolve and change (like flu does). Adapt vaccines accordingly. But be aware of the distinct possibility that it may become far less deadly; in which case extreme measures could be damaging.
