Wearing a mask was against the law subject to a £60 fine. This man wasn't wearing a mask and didn't have an exception certificate and therefore had broken the law. Very few people are exempt from wearing masks, most of them elderly with emphysema. The likelyhood is that this man is lying. I have never seen this law enforced in shops in the year since this became mandatory. This cop was doing his job in enforcing the law, and the guy is likely to be lying. If every cop had enforced the rules, then we would probably be out of this lockdown months earlier, instead of letting young people do whatever they liked.

If every cop had enforced the rules we would have seen riots on a mass scale across the land and also been in the same politically-driven lockdown we have endured.

We should have been honest with people to start with about what we can and can't do; and not gone with a media-driven hysteria. Covid isn't nonsense but it is just one threat to people among many that has been blown out of all proportion.

Demonising the young - which is now increasingly the thing to do, it seems - is just another example in this tiresome saga of looking for the truth in irrelevant details; whether the irrelevant detail is mask-wearing-or-not, or the latest dull conspiracy theory.

Robbie what on earth are you talking about? There is NO SUCH THING as an exemption certificate and you do not have to provide proof.

People are exempt for all sorts of reasons.
I am exempt because I have trigeminal neuralgia (suicide disease, look it up) and need to keep things OFF the side of my face.
I manage for short bursts by overdosing on the drugs, and fiddling with clips and stuff, but sometimes I need to get it off QUICK and it would be a damned sight easier to do that without arseholes assuming I am lying.

Do you know the most common reason why people are exempt?
It is because the mask across your nose and mouth feels exactly like an assailants hand, and many many people are being retraumatised every time they go into a bloody shop by judgemental arseholes assuming people are making it up, and so they wear the mask despite panic attacks and PTSD.
It is bullying.

You have no right to know about anybody else's physical or mental health and neither do the police.

I wish people would NOT pretend to be exempt if they are not. I cant see why people boast about it yet would not dream of taking a disabled parking spot, but I would rather accept that some will be lying than harass people who already have more than enough to cope with!

What the hell is this cop supposed to do? He has been sent to this shop to enforce the law on mask wearing. If you don't have to prove exemption, and I have seen people wearing lanyards and cards to show exemption, particularly on the tube, so there is obviously a way that this can be done, then anyone and everyone will just say that they are exempt and the law is totally pointless. I can't believe that you couldn't get a note of the doctor to confirm your condition and this can be provided if asked for, which appears to be hardly ever. The guy on the video just appears to be antaganistic for the sake of it and provides no explanation or promise to provide proof at a later date.

Disabilities (including diabetes, for example) show up via driving licences to assist the police in ensuring correct parking compliances etc.

Because he does not have to and the policeman should not have asked him for it.
The exemption badges are available to anyone who wants one, and are just to make the person who cant wear the mask more comfortable about being harassed by nutters that would rather throw their weight around than just read the bloody government guidance and laws.

What was the policeman supposed to do? He was supposed to uphold the law.
This was unlawful harassment, and there is no excuse for it.

Thank you for the correction. Though this doesn't mean that the police are allowed to stop people at random and ask if they are diabetic or have been raped or held at gunpoint or whatever.

This officer was obviously picked up at school. He enjoys the power, if police can't stop and search for knives then they shouldn't stop and search for documents.

Imaginary documents. The documents don't exist. He detained that man for not owning something that was a figment of his imagination. He is a prick.

I hope not. Probably someone who has been misinformed by whoever was supposed to be training him.

OFFICER...
Where is your Ribald Unicorn? You have to carry a Ribald unicorn in shops.

VICTIM...
But there is no such thing as a Ribald Unicorn.

OFFICER...
I am arresting you for not having a Ribald Unicorn.
