In the Olympics that stunning last second by Italy in the 4X100 relay reflected Italy just edging GB in the Euros. But in the area we are best at - MUSIC - Italy not only beat GB but we came bottom in the Eurovision Song Contest with NUL POINTS.
Something has gone terribly wrong with the British music industry. Hopefully the BPI or The Ivors or UK Music will approach the BBC to join in the contest to find a UK winner for 2022. When I ran our quest in the mid 90s I involved ALL the music areas as well as the public. We had Radio Two as part of it; we had the final on prime time and a couple of times linked to the Lottery (back then a very popular TV show). I organised free CDs of the final four to be given out by retailers (we gave away a million CDs).
The result? We won with Katrina and Love Shine A Light.
In 2021 we got nul points.
