Big Macs.... 3 Years, 12 Months ago
A woman is suing McDonalds for forcing her to break lent by eating a Big Mac.

metro-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/metro...eak-lent-15054774%2F

If she broke Lent all it means is she didn't observe Lent; on this basis I haven't ever observed "dry January" and intend to sue a household name wine manufa turer for a considerable sum...

Ridiculous in this case, but she has a point.
Nobody would spend millions promoting their products if they were not sure the adverts worked on a lot of people.

And we could certainly claim that the supermarkets are, if not forcing, most definitely steering us towards eating unhealthy food if they only stock junk.

It takes a strong will to buy the whole-wheat loaf or pasta when the white stuff is three times cheaper with more variety.

And add to that the fact that white bread is delicious where many of the other kinds aren't. And a really good burger can be delicious too. I feel like one about once a year. I make my own with really top of the range minced beef and all kinds of extra herbs and spices. Fantastic butter. Soft rolls. Yes I like Heinz ketchup. Yes I like Colmans mustard. Yes I pour loads of Aromat on it (on everything). And a large, ice cold Tsing Tao beer. But once or twice a year is enough for me. Nothing wrong with that. Like a full English fry up once a week.

I don't know how many people are dying through poor diet, boozing, and smoking, but it would be interesting to compare the figures with the coronavirus charts.

The other aspect of this for me is that she is making a special plea for religion; it being lent she was "forced" to break. This, to her, is more important than a diet being broken. It is yet another protected status we all should be forced to admit.

On free will: neuro-science increasingly tells us there is no such thing; we just intuitively feel like there should be. Bit like a lot of people and religious explanations for "design", I suppose. We are pattern seeking mammals.

If there is no free will then yes she has a point. I do fear for JK's bank balance, though, when all the thousands he persuaded to buy his "knicker waving" record seek compensation...

(I have still resisted listening to it; but my resolve weakens....)

McDonald's sell about one billion Big Macs a year and most international nutritional assessments have shown them to be both healthy and beneficial.

They've been selling in over a hundred territories for over 55 years and analysed by numerous agencies and organisations who found nothing untoward.

It'd be unwise though to consume this very popular product on a daily basis as a healthy diet usually includes a variety of food products. For one item though, a Big Mac has a particularly large number.

Isn’t there a saying that any publicity is good publicity?

I'm not sure Gerald Ratner would agree.

At least Ratner was truthful, we all knew Ratner's sold rubbish jewellery but you got what you paid for. Warren James sell crap jewellery also but it's always busy in the shops.
