All media re-write history and although it's really a gossipy thing, Popbitch perpetuates a total myth- that the (vile) Johnny "Rotten" voiced in a 1978 interview cl;aims about Jimmy Savile.

He did no such thing. He simply made this up & when the Savile scandal erupted and the media stenographers duly made a fabrication into reality and he got heaps of publicity.

The internet echo chamber then does it 's job.

Blind Freddy could tell you Rotten made no such claim- it would have been highly defamatory with the litigious Savile coming down like a ton of bricks. Rotten is not stupid but he is nasty.

Rotten has always been sour about Savile as Savile never fell for the Sex Pistols schtick.

I threw a drink over the pretend toughie Lydon at a NYC party once and he skulked away (can't remember why)

By contrast- Sid Vicious was in reality the nicest person, personable and well mannered. Shame his life fell apart over drugs.
