Obesity 3 Years, 8 Months ago
Is the real problem. Look at this apalling piece of propaganda from Sky News:

news.sky.com/story/just-take-the-vaccine...re-of-covid-12483946

Gemma is morbidly obese and this isn't even mentioned. 77% who end up in hospital in a serious condition are obese. Why will no one go there? The vast majority of deaths are in the obese: target obesity then. Simple.

We should have been doing this for 2 years now. Give the obese the info they need to protect themselves and the NHS.

Covid doesn't want to kill it's host; but when it ends up in bodies that are so unhealthy it gets unlucky a lot...

Absolutely WYOT. Add smokers and the very vulnerable elderly and you have 99% of those badly affected by this brand of colds or flu.

A low percentage considering two thirds of all UK adults are deemed to be obese.

It might or might not be Fulton but so what?

Obesity is clearly THE marker along with age and other serious illness for ending up on a ventilator. In fact, it is THE only marker that people could do something about.

So why haven't we been talking about it non stop for 2 years? Are we serious about saving lives or not?

This "healthy young man" (with the BMI of a pork scratching...) actually had every reason to think he might become ill with Covid or die of a stroke or heart attack.

What utter shit the press is talking and knows it:

www.walesonline.co.uk/news/health/covid-...aled-davies-22305317

People are responsible for their own weight. Don't lockdown again and make everyone responsible for the obese.

The Guardian recently published an article about the crisis that one in four children aged 10 and 11 in England are obese and that children living in poorer areas are twice as likely to be obese. The tabloids are only interested in stories that pump the emotions.

Food intake and diet aren't the only causes. McDonald's can even supply a balanced weekly menu.

Diabetes and many other conditions can be relevant, as well as genetics and hereditary factors.

In addition to hormones, medications and arthritis (restricting movement). Cushing syndrome too.

Yes I know Barney. I said obesity is ONE marker along with inherent health conditions. What has McDonalds got to do with anything? People get obese eating from a variety of sources too much and not moving enough...

Is there a point buried in here?

That people invariably blame diet and lack of exercise, without mentioning or considering the numerous other principal contributors.

Stop being tubby if you want a longer live.

Exercise equipment is dirt cheap. Foot peddlers are good I use them when I watch films, resistance bands are only a couple of quid, dumbbells are not expensive.

It's amazing how much calorie's you can burn by using peddlers whilst watching TV.

Yep. I do an hours shadow boxing/boxercise 5 mornings - on a good week! - now a week listening to hard rock to keep me going - no major kit needed whatsoever and I do it at home so no on going cost; but is a full body cardio work out, easy on my middle-aged legs and knees.

Also walk a fair bit and swim occasionally.

I don't do it to try and live forever or look "ripped" or anything. I do it for my health & cos it makes me feel bloody great.

But people just need to eat healthily and walk - even for just 30 mins a day. It aint complicated. I know it is not as easy for some due to health issues (physical and or mental) but I do believe the vast majority of people can find a little something that works for them...*

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Barney is (largely) right.

By the way, do you seriously think that these covid sufferers are just chosen randomly, and they all happen to be huge?

Or chosen on purpose to whip up a hate fest and have a better and more lucrative story?

Barney was just stating the obvious which I hadn't disagreed with - of course there are other risk factors.

I don't want to see stupid hatred either Honey but in my view the obese have been let down by the Gov being too scared to go there - too scared to offend.

It is the only risk factor in people's control.

No idea how or why the subjects are selected for the stories; but none of that makes any difference to my point.

Not quite the "only" risk factor. Smoking is up there for me (not yet revealed by any "experts"). And I know you agree - better protection and treatment for the vulnerable would save thousands of lives, if not millions. Care homes. Hospices. Hospitals. Increase security and treatment.

Yes and this highlights my broader point about the need to be proactive and clear about what we CAN DO to lessen the damage from Covid; but mature enough to be honest about what we CAN'T do: stop infections. Time for us to take responsibility as indivuduals and grow up as a society. Otherwise there will continue to be needless deaths (yes many obese and many who are ill and can do nothing about that as well) AND huge damage through restrictions.

Not sadly, in the control of many obese people who (because of other conditions, medications etc.) are simply unable to get their BMIs down.

I do exercise just to be healthy, I am unlucky with my metabolism. So I can pounds on easily but its challenging for me to shred weight easily.

So I am always going short and stocky genetics, my genetics are also against me. If I was just bit taller by inches I would have better BMI and waistline.

My BMI is under control; it's not fantastic but still in the healthy number bracket. I don't drink as much as I did, its mainly at parties these days.

I like using foot peddlers when I am watching TV, it does not feel like exercise but it is.

What on earth is a foot peddler?
