I seem to remember when Jimmy Carr started out he was funny, with creative, quirky and inoffensive humour. Then he started effing and blinding and being "edgy". Stopped being funny from what I've seen. He has apparently been saying that the extermination of gypsies in the Holocaust was a good thing and getting laughter and applause from the audience. As one of the people in the second video below says, if he'd said it was a good thing for gays to be exterminated no-one would have been laughing and it's because gypsies and travellers still face prejudice and are looked down on today that some people find their extermination something to laugh at.
I don't think he should apologise, though. What he said was obviously deliberate, so any apology would be insincere. Best for him to go away and leave comedy to people who are actually funny.
