There seems to be outrage over the photos of William and Kate shaking hands with people through a fence in Jamaica. It didn't look great, but it wouldn't have looked good either if they'd gone sailing past without shaking hands.

In this photo of them shaking hands through the fence, they seem to be being guided by what looks as if it might be local officials behind them. So were they set up?

An unfortunate look for sure. This is not what I want but if I was a republican I would be harnessing the "woke brigade" against The Royals big time. Topple a piece of bronze? Cancel a dead poet? When there is a walking talking example of inherited privilige who's staggering wealth and status is based on empire and subjugation.

They are really missing a trick, at the moment...

All I see is another Royal visit and kids excited to see them so they ran to the fence to greet them.

I remember in the 80's and 90's there was a ton of sports stars who would visit schools or drive by schools/colleges to give out free merch or autographs.

It was very common for NBA, NFL, NHL, wrestling stars would visit their own schools and would be mobbed by kids just like the photo in question.

When I lived in and worked in the states I would be a lot of newspapers and sports magazines. I even remember when CNN was credible news source now it's a fucking joke.

But ultimately, I just think it feels better with them there.

I think William & Kate in particular, though, need to learn the art of reticence from his gran and never-apologise from his late grandad; or fear they will not last the scrutiny or mastubatorial faux moral outrages of this age.

He didn't actually apologise, Wyot. It was all in the minds of the journalists.
