TOPIC: From Genesis to Revelation

From Genesis to Revelation 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I am listening to the first Genesis album under the title And The Word is... - a budget CD release on the Castle label from 1987. A vinyl rip no doubt but this verison plays the album as it should be heard.

It is probably the best CD release of the album and the Rutherford bass lines always me gives goosebumps as it stands out more than other CD releases I have listened. I am reading the inlay notes said there was some marketing issues and you didn't the orginal arrangements. Do the original arrangements and demo tapes still exist JK, if so are there plans for a box set release ?

I am glad that Kenny Everett gave the album and singles airplay even if David Jacobs did not or didn't like the album full stop.

My only complaint is that In The Wilderness should of been the single with The Serpent as the B-side.

JK, you should be proud of the the album and I wish to Thank You ! for finding Genesis and producing a masterpiece, especially for a first album.

It's way before it's time it's from 1968 but sounds like a mid 1970s album and I am sure Gentle Giant took ideas from the album.

I hope Wyot, has thanked Nick Tauber.

I am a fan of early Genesis as well GM. Firmly in the Gabriel prog camp. I couldn't stand them when they became a pure pop band with - to my ears - the dreadful and dreadfully dull Phil Collins. But each to their own.

Just found this I thought I have heard it all but some how it slipped through my net. It's basically a demo of The Serpent.

Has this ever been offically released JK, If not are there any plans of a definitive CD box set of From Genesis to Revelation complete with outtakes, demos and other bits and pieces ?

Yes the remixes are released now and Cherry Red has bought the rights and are releasing various mixes and editions. It has consistently sold over the years and still does.

Would you be able to give release updates ?

I would be interested to see what Cherry Red do with it.

Look even Tony Banks, is getting mixed messages from you Wyot !

Is this the stuff that Cherry Red will release ? I hope there is more demos, mixes and outtakes you gave to Cherry Red. Than the digital download or the Orange Collection which was release over a decade ago.

In other words I want a bumper box set.

A Reddit post for you JK.

www.reddit.com/r/Genesis/comments/hgqkx8...ilver_join_the_band/

How did John Silver join Genesis and was Chris Stewart really that terrible ? I heard some demos that Chris is on and they sound good to me. One Eyed Hound is an awesome track so is That's Me.

Also why did John Silver leave so suddenly, he most of been popular no band mate(s) would a write a song about you if they didn't like you.

You must write a book about the album JK and are you still touch with Genesis ?

I have been playing Genesis albums in order in the last few days again.

I don't agree with the all the reviews on www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=6 however was it ever recorded without the string's arrangements JK?

It's amazing just 2 years after they released a dark album called Nursery Cryme which an absolute belter. I have never looked a croquet mallet and croquet players the same way since I first the album.

I hope there is a complete Genesis collection out soon. I hope Cherry Red do a complete Ant Philips box set rather than individual box sets they have now.

Wow €300 million in return for enriching Hedge Fund managers....I wonder what those idealistic boys who made the first records would have made of that!

It seems too low to me. Phil Collins back catalogue have been used for films, The 2 Mike Rutherford studio albums Smallcreeps Day and Acting Very Strange are very good but not really well known. I wonder if Concord own Mike and The Mechanics stuff also. Cherry Red did an excellent box set of Tony Banks albums, it's no longer in print sadly.

As I said Wyot, if Concord released a complete Genesis box set (Charisma years) I WILL be buying.

Too low? Not so sure. All depends on whether they can create an ongoing/new audience.
