TOPIC: Great Expectations 1946

Great Expectations 1946 3 Years, 3 Months ago
Shown on BBC2 again - I think the first 15 minutes are possibly the greatest ever made on film. For a start Martita Hunt is the finest Miss Havisham. Likewise Charles Dickens is perhaps the best ever writer. David Lean was a genius. Alec Guinness was not just a great actor - he adapted the original stage screenplay on which Lean based the film. The churchyard scene is stunning. The film has been voted the 5th best of all time but I think these first minutes are absolutely extraordinary.
