The victim was aged 12 at the beginning of the offences, which took place over three years precisely between May 30 1965 and May 31 1968 at a number of locations in London and the South East, when the offender was in his mid-20s.
In March 2016 the victim, by then in his 60s, reported the abuse to the Metropolitan Police, and the UNICEF anti-smacking campaigner Newell was interviewed by detectives last May and charged in October.
Balding pensioner Newell, now 77, was jailed for six years and eight months for the buggery offences and three years and four months for the indecent assaults with the sentences to run concurrently.
