Re:Magnificent Wolfenden programme on BBC4 17 Years, 8 Months ago
The more I think about this drama after watching it last night, the more I think it deserves a raft of awards.
It was incredibly subtle, clever, gentle and powerful. It totally resisted the urge to be controversial or shocking. It was, in parts, very funny and very touching indeed.

where can you download it ?. Is this the programme that features Lord Montague ?.
A long time ago I met an extremely good looking young chap in Australia who was born on and worked on Montague's property..the son of a gamekeeper. He told me all the intimate details of Montague's terrible ordeal with the law-obviously they were close friends as he worshipped the Lord. Sadly he died soon after in a train accident.

No that was a different show Veritas and I missed it though I know Edward Montague and meant to watch it.
I suspect both will crop up on BBC2 - certainly the Wolfenden one - Charles Dance will win a BAFTA for Best Actor in it. A wonderfully understated performance.

I remember not so many years ago , Lord Montagues` regular Sunday morning drives down my Mums country lane proudly exhibiting and chugging along in the latest vintage car that had been finished in his workshop.
Only in England as they say, I do hope this is displayed in future or current historic dramatisms.

Have now had chance to watch this - and superb it was too.
I had to smile when the Home Office bigwig told Wolfenden that "he knew what outcome they wanted" from his enquiry ! The David Kelly inquiry came back to mind.
