This Government in particular is not trying to run a Criminal Justice System; it is trying to win a popularity contest. The logical conclusion of this approach is the return of capital punishment (on the victim's says, of course). They do something similar in some US districts. When a sex-offender is released and moving to the area all people in the area receive a letter via post. I did know people who have been jailed for the crimes they didn't do...but was not jailed for the crimes they did do. Very ironic.
