I often quote these cases when telling people that false allegations are NOT "vanishingly rare" but extremely common, but they are just the tip of the enormous iceberg sinking the good Justice ship called Titanic. Day's case is being heard this autumn I gather though the damage his lies caused have killed one woman and destroyed her innocent husband. It is worth remembering these and others even though they get very little mainstream media coverage. They do not fit the simplistic media agenda.

I'm hoping that Danny Day's trial gets Front Page coverage in every paper and on every TV and radio show when it happens in October. That's only fair both to him and to his "victims".

At the risk of sounding like Hitler, aren't most of these people the sort who would be in sheltered hospital lodges before care in the community was inflicted on us?

Sadly no Honey; they walk amongst us. False accusers are often reasonable, sensible, decent people who are persuaded by media coverage to believe their often slight exaggerations. If someone is dead what harm can it do to make a lot of money by lying about them? And, within minutes, they start believing the lies are true.

Retraining and making the individual officers accountable should be enough.
