TOPIC: Barristers, solicitors and Legal Aid

Barristers, solicitors and Legal Aid 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I totally support this strike; I'm not normally in favour of strikes but having had to rely on Legal Aid for my 2018 trial, as I simply could not afford the massive costs of defending myself against claims of crimes that never happened, I know how hard it is for innocent men and women to fight the broken system without first rate legal talent. In my first trial in 2001, when I could afford decent representation by using up my entire pension (£1 million), I foolishly relied on expensive lawyers instead of doing my own research (admittedly they did tell me but I felt "you don't buy a dog and bark yourself").

I was so lucky to get the very best solicitor, barrister and private investigator on Legal Aid in 2018 - as they all totally believed in my case (and won awards for doing so).

But the ordinary person, falsely accused or prosecuted, simply cannot get those allies. So increasingly innocent people are locked up.

The criminal justice system is collapsing in parts of England; particularly the South East/London/Surrey.

From barristers, to Prison, Probation & Court staff. Many areas of it are literally not functioning due to public sector pay freezes and conditions, primarily.

Not one media outlet seems to have joined the dots between the services and the implications.

And everyone suffers: genuine victims, future victims, tax payers, the guilty.

Even more reason not to pay your bills.

No barristers means no court.

Oh no GM the CPS (the state prosecution branch) are fine. It's just the defence from State prosecution you won't be able to get...
