TOPIC: Too old.

Too old. 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Seeing that paper notes aren't going to be accepted after Friday I remembered we have an old envelope for Petty Cash from years ago (for a decade or so everything has gone internet). Sure enough - £500 in paper notes. So, as instructed by media (ALWAYS believe the media) I take them into the Post Office. "Too old" says the man. "I'm only 77" I replied - a joke because he hadn't even looked at me; many shop workers these days refuse to look at any customer. "Not you; the notes" he said (no humour there). "I know", I replied, "that's why I've brought them in". "You have to go to a bank", he said. "Any bank?". "No the Bank of England".

Really this country is falling apart.

The paper £20 and £50 notes will be withdrawn in September 2022. The last day you’ll be able to use them is 30 September 2022.

After that date, they’ll no longer be classed as legal tender. So people are advised to either spend them or deposit them at their own bank in advance.

Use the all the paper banknotes to pay for a holiday. Or go to an arcade and change them up there. You will have a shit load of silver insead.

I use cash all the time and I haven't seen paper money in years. If you can't use the paper money you could use it as wallpaper or as bum paper.

I've put it in the post GM to the Bank of England (they don't have much else to worry about... NOT) with the correct form filled in, a copy of my passport, a Utility bill and God knows what else. If I ever get anything back I'll update this fascinating thread!

You might get a job application form in return.
