Signs of course were not good when Mourinho was seemingly at conflict with the club's position on players brought into the side. There were clearly tensions between Mourinho and Shevchenko. Now, I would say that Shevchenko is one of my all time top players in the world. So what went wrong? Mourinho didn't know how to fit Shevchenko into his side, and didn't need him.
My thoughts. Yep. The bubble has burst for Chelsea and proves that billions does not equal a great football club. Chelsea did not need Shevchenko nor Michael Ballack. More money than sense?
Mourinho is a great manager. A terrific statistician. One cannot pour enough scorn on the Chelsea board for being dimwitted enough to lose him. Arsenal are my team. The board would spill blood to keep Arsene Wenger, despite us having not picked up any silverware for two years. They understand Wenger and understand he is about creating a team for the future.
Should Wenger ever leave I would welcome Mourinho with open arms.
A very sad 24 hours for the Premiership in my opinion. Mourinho was never dull. Often controversial, often provocative, but always a great character. He didn't inspire the most attractive football in the world, but he did so much for Chelsea, and one can't help but feel that Abramovich has peed all over him.
You cannot see Mourinho for smoke now, and perhaps there is something awfully wrong behind the scenes at Chelsea FC.
You'll never believe this but I'm a first time poster yet frequent reader and I logged on this morning before anything else to see this news... so now you're breaking sports news!
I think, with the benefit being of being able to look back on Mourinho`s own "Egg-Wina Gate", it was possibly the most comical resignation speeched ever given.
He has never ceased to amaze me with a command of the English language, which is almost based on metaphors of historic events, much like an alien race once encountered by Piccard in Star Trek the Next Generation.
In Star Trek format the events will be remembered as ..."Mourinho at Chelsea Waitrose"...(to which we must all respond with a knowing "Aaahhh!" and a smile!
