Rishi loves Gary Glitter 2 Years, 7 Months ago
And quite right too. Great records. And an early victim of the False Allegations Industry and Max Clifford. Time to release him from prison.

I find it hard to believe that someone with a provable sexual interest in children who sought refuge in a part of the world notorious for the child sex trade and admitted to having an 11-year-old in his bed would have just happened to be falsely accused by ALL his accusers.

In November 1997, Glitter was arrested after a technician discovered pornographic images of children on the hard drive of a laptop that he had taken to a computer retailer in Bristol for repairs. Further images were discovered by police in searches of his homes in London and Somerset.[60] He was castigated in the media over the allegations; additionally, his appearance in the Spice Girls' musical comedy film Spice World was cut, though a truncated edit of the scene, featuring a version of Glitter's "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)", was left in the film.

At Bristol Crown Court on 12 November 1999, Mr Justice Butterfield sentenced Glitter to four months in prison and placed him on the sex offender register in the UK after he admitted downloading more than 4,000 items of child pornography.[10] He was cleared of a charge of having sex with a 14-year-old girl with whom he had a relationship in the late 1970s.[18] It was later revealed that the woman sold her story to the News of the World and stood to earn more money from the newspaper should Glitter be convicted.[61]

...

From March 2005, Glitter resided in Vũng Tàu, Vietnam, where he rented a luxury seaside villa and applied for permanent Vietnamese residency. He came to the attention of Vietnamese authorities after being banned from a nightclub for allegedly groping a teenage waitress; eyewitnesses also reported seeing him take two young girls into his home. On 12 November 2005, he fled his home. A 15-year-old girl was found living in his flat and was questioned by authorities. Police began searching for Glitter, and he was arrested on 20 November at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City while trying to board a flight to Bangkok. Six Vietnamese girls and women, aged from 11 to 23, claimed that Glitter had had sex with them.[69][70][71]

After his arrest, Glitter was turned over to provincial police from Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu, returned to Vũng Tàu, and held on suspicion of having sex with the two underage girls. Glitter was held in jail throughout the criminal investigation, which was completed on 26 December 2005. The charge of rape was dropped for "lack of evidence" (according to Glitter's lawyer), although Glitter admitted that an 11-year-old girl had slept in his bed. Glitter could have faced execution by firing squad if found guilty of child rape.[72] After having received compensatory payments from Glitter, the families of the girls appealed for clemency for him.[73]

On 2 March 2006, Glitter was tried on charges of committing obscene acts with two girls, aged 10 and 11, facing up to 14 years in prison if convicted. The following day, he was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. The sentence included mandatory deportation at the end of his sentence, and payment of five million Vietnamese đồng (US$315) to his victims' families.[74] Judge Hoàng Thanh Tùng said: "He sexually abused and committed obscene acts with children many times in a disgusting and sick manner."[24][73][75][76][77][78] Glitter continued to deny any wrongdoing, claiming to have been framed by British tabloid newspapers.[79]

I have no idea of his innocence or guilt Jo but my experience of the False Allegations Industry, especially when promoted by Max Clifford for financial gain, tend to suggest to me that people like Gary, Rolf, Jimmy and others were not guilty.

Was there a fuss made when the same Gary Glitter track was used in 'The Joker' movie?

I too have no idea if Gary Glitter was guilty or not. It's a fact that the volume of evidence required for a guilty verdict in some far east legal systems is very small and the accused is assumed to be guilty until proven innocent. Put together with the West's insatiable appetite for scandal and sensationalism, and the money paid to alleged victims, leads me to wonder about the validity of the accusations.

I've shared a bed with a 13 year old boy. If that statement was published in the media, there would be lynch mobs searching for me. They would not wait for the full story, that I was also 13 at the time, and no sex was involved.
People, and members of the press, do not often want the full story. They prefer only their own edited highlights of the story. The public, in turn, believe whatever crap they are told.

So if Rishi used a track for a drumbeat, then wouldn't he be a Mike Leander fan rather than a Gary Glitter fan?

Mike Leander and John Rossall played the instruments on GG songs.

Remember that Gary Glitter, does not get royalties he sold his back catalogue to Sony in the late 80's or early 90's, it was kind of big news back then (He had it all) before he got done for a dodgy computer.

I thought Sidewalk Sinner, was GG best song in my opinion,

I did read Gary Glitter, autobiography titled The Leader. If memory serves me right, there was some dark moments in his childhood that he didn't go into when mentioning. He was certainly holding things back, I wouldn't of been surprised if he was raped as a kid or had pictures taken of him.

I have only read the book the book once when it was published and passed it on soon after. This would been nearly 25- 30 years ago. He was busted a few years later.

I think Mike Leander would have been interesting to meet.. a great musical talent and a long history of arranging and writing music.

I remember first hearing Rock N Roll Part 2 at school in Kent when I was probably around 12 and all us lads in class were raving about it as there wasn't anything quite like it around before then.. JK touches on the tribal sounds in Sakkarin "Sugar Sugar".

I think success ruined GG just like wealth has affected people like Kayne West, when you can have so much you go a little crazy.. and I think GG wasn't very intellectually switched on compared to some of the other people in pop of those times.. but he was a great TOTP TV entertainer in those early years 1972 - 1975. I think after 1975 the songs became weak and the image became too much of an effort .. like mutton done up as lamb..

I knew Mike Leander well and even employed his son as Work Experience. Mike was a huge, underestimated talent. One of the worst things about the stupid blanket ban on GG tracks is the financial damage to MIke's family. Another is so few of today's listeners hearing some terrific music.

It was worth reading GG, autobiography if you see listed online. He worshipped Mike Leander. John Springate, from Glitterband made some videos in the last 2 years about his music, he speaks about Leander with great admiration.

All that Glitters is not Gary.
Nobody knows the truth from the lies about the allegations against GG,but we do know he downloaded lots of sick stuff, and he was totally stupid to put himself in a vulnerable situation in Asia before his arrest in Vietnam.
His arrests do not make a difference to how I enjoy his music, and it only seems to be the UK press who object to us hearing it today.

From what I've read, the Vietnamese (or Cambodian?) family were paid by British rag journos to set him up.

The same sort of journalists who hacked into Milly Dowler's phone and possibly delayed the catching of a child murderer (as well as causing indescribable upset to her parents).

Yes, he downloaded some 'sick sh***', but do we have any idea how many people were doing the same in those 'Wild West' days of the Internet? I remember around that time I used to download a lot of classical music torrents. The torrent sharer platform had a feature where you could view what else the uploader was sharing, and it was shocking to find quite often that a person sharing recordings of Debussy nocturnes was also sharing some awful sounding porn. Glitter only got caught because of his stupidity in taking his laptop to Dixons.

In any case, downloading illegal porn 20 years ago does not warrant locking away somebody effectively for life on dubious accusations.

I remember those days with torrents, I used to download soundboard bootlegs. I know what you mean about sharing or feeding other dodgy uploads.

I think it was Pirate Bay, where you could talk to other people via DM. Someone asked me if I liked porn and what type. That's what stopped me doing torrents.

I have no idea, why people want to see or watch porn.
