"but the spin on my words is dangerous". I totally agree. When media described his words as "boasting" they are putting a false spin on them. He was clearly NOT boasting. He was just saying. And saying the truth. All soldiers kill. They are told to kill. They are trained to kill. That is the reality. It is NOT boasting unless, of course, you have an agenda. Or unless you believe the media hype without thinking.

Inventing a body count that those in the know say he would not have been aware of, could be considered boasting, and giving a number is very bad form indeed, but, even giving him the benefit of the doubt, this man, who thinks he knows better than the palace how to manage publicity, and wants to show them how to do it, DID NOT PREDICT HOW HIS WORDS WOULD BE TWISTED.

The press is a nuisance. The palace machinations are unseemly and tiresome, but this drug addled blackmailing creep is not the saviour he imagines himself to be.

Oh I agree Honey although I don't know whether he is a creep - I've never met him and don't believe the media.
Nobody is blameless. But the media are exaggerating - as is their nature - manipulated by those wanting to make millions (the publishers; Netflix - terrific manipulation; efficient profits).
Whether he wa responsible for 25 deaths or 7 deaths is unimportant.
Whether or not soldiers should refuse to reveal their true purpose is up for discussion.
But he was clearly not "boasting".
Media hype.

Agreed JK. The words are not in themselves necessarily boastful.

But we can only conclude - given his vast experience of the media - that he is either an idiot surrounded and advised by idiots who had no clue this would be spun, or that he knew there was a chance the media would spin his words and he is playing games, trying to have it all ways.

I don't believe the people around him, at least, could possibly be that stupid.

Is he drug addled? I don't know. Never met him.
Is he a blackmailer? I doubt it but I don't know.
Is he the saviour? Doubt it.
Does the media inflate? Yes.
That's my point.

Oh I don't think it's stupid for companies and PR people to urge slight inflation to stories. Everyone does it. "If you could imply it was a racist question..." "But it wasn't". "No so don't say it WAS we'll let someone else put the twist on that..."

And so on, Ad Finitum. We do all know how media - and those manipulating it - work. But it's not "stupid" to fail to see the magnitude of the reaction to the hype.

Perhaps so. However, it is stupid if he did not anticipate the hype occurring in the first place. But of course he did, despite his protestations of innocence. But I get you are commentating on media while me and Honey are exercised about Harry!

Two different subjects, really. Though enjoying a mutual feeding frenzy currently, and hard to distinguish in all the thrashing.

Yes that's exactly it WYOT and Honey - we are all entitled to make up our own minds about anyone and whether or not we depend on media coverage. But this is ABOUT media coverage. Should News items be covered with an agenda? And "boasting" is very much part of an agenda. I resent that.

None of us are mind readers) is relevant and of interest as part of the bigger picture of grandiose narcissism and coercion, not by itself, which would be pretty dull.

Yes. I agree. It should have been reproduced in full or not at all.

The rest, is from their own mouths, incredibly.
