passing the buck 16 Years, 7 Months ago
Back in the mid 90s, after witnessing a person being jailed without any evidence against them, I wrote to the Home Office to ask them to confirm that the rule of Innocent until proven Guilty was now obsolete and that the default was now Guilty until proven Innocent. I received a reply after a few days telling me that this was not a matter for the Home Office and that I should write to the Lord Chancellor's Office. I did so. The reply came within a few days telling me that this was not a matter for the Lord Chancellor and that I should write to the Home Office.

That was when Mad Michael Howard was Home Secretary. I'd hoped that, once he was gone, things would improve. Unfortunately, they haven't.

This is similar to how the police blame the CPS and the CPS blame the police. Nobody ever takes responsibility.

There needs to be an Ombudsman for each government department-one with real powers and teeth.

I reckon governments are completely out of control these days-they are almost unaccountable except at election time but by then you can hardly remember exactly why you hated them on the first place.

Anyone ever heard of a policeman being charged for lying in court ?. Remember those cases involving IRA suspects being fitted up..years ad years later they will finally get justice and freedom while cops who lied have their pensions.
