Hosted by someone who knows so little about music he introduces SAM Capaldi??? Even I, 78, know it's Lewis. Nobody cares about content. The music is awful. The staging predictable. Just an awful dull show celebrating an awful, dull industry. So sad.

So what did I do different when I took over (and "saved") the Brits after the fiasco of the Sam'n'Mick year? Mainly I added FAR more music and had FAR less stupid chat (and hosts calling stars the wrong name, even if they were chubby nonentities). Example - each "presenter" of an award was introduced with a minute long clip of their biggest/best hits. We used montages of old hits to praise the past. We had none of that stupid "Are you having a good time? I do like your frock" rubbish. I cut back the number of awards (making those left FAR more prestigious). I had The Great British Music Weekend - three nights at Wembley with numerous stars and bands from giants like Ozzy and The Cure to unknown (and unsigned) acts like Carter. And showed montages of the three nights with 30 seconds of each act plus a minute or two of the headliners in the show. Had interviews - and spectacular moments like then Prime Minister Thatcher, bless her, crooning How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? No "hosts" (Voice Overs). Much faster. Much punchier. And most of all MUCH more entertaining and FAR better viewing. With MUCH more music.

Result? Ratings over 10 million (these days it gets 3 million if lucky). Huge boost for retail sales (these days there ARE no retail sales - so why wasn't Spotify given a section of the show?). Incredible media publicity before and after (these days - none - why would there be? No stars).

Just as Eurovision should be an excuse for the BBC to have several prime time great shows before we choose the UK entry boosting the arts of song writing, of performing, of online development, of technical tricks, of examining publishing... what an excuse for huge rated entertaining shows - cheap for the BBC (produced and paid for by industry bodies), beneficial for art forms (like producing, arranging), great for diversity (few other industries or art forms are perfect areas for the disabled, for example, instead of stupid sports which only encourage building up muscle strength in the arms of wheelchair users - not always physically good or possible). After all, someone with the physical abilities of Stephen Hawking can be the greatest music producer in the world if talented. I'd do a three minute tribute to Robin Millar, multi million producer of Sade and others though blind.

Go has very good realistic lyrics...we all said what Cat Burns said when you suss out a cheating partner. However the deep breaths between lines makes me cringe.

When I was in my teens and 20's (not in any order). I was working in and owning bars, fled the The Troubles, watched a lot of US TV, worked in North America, getting drunk with friends, going to gigs (oh there were plenty) came back to the Ireland going to prison for a so-called tax fiddle (hired a dodgy accountant).
