BAFTAs 2 Years, 5 Months ago
What is all the fuss about All Quiet about? Another War Is Hell film; much better done in the one whose title I've forgotten (1917 thanks Google) but watched for a second time on TV recently (almost all in one shot with a far better lead performance).
On the other hand, Banshees was, for me, the film of 2022.

Seventy years ago, The Quiet Man movie (John Wayne/Maureen O'Hara) was also filmed in the west of Ireland.

In Inisfree - as opposed to Inisherin - where Banshees is set; both locations are fictitious.

QM won two Oscars (director and cinematography) after promising more. However local opposition was strong (in the 50's) to the depiction of locals as simpletons.

Banshee also has a simple story in rural Ireland - and local resentment has again reared its head, against village idiot type characters.

As Ireland sees itself nowadays as being at the forefront of many modern technologies, industries and scienceces.

A few surprises and disappointments - particularly Banshees.

However the Oscars may prove to be different, on March 12th.
