Tubs, dinner and cancer 2 Years, 3 Months ago

Wyot and Honey do know, my friend 'Tubs' is an amusing but a wild man.
I was having a dinner with him for a nice catch up chat. When we sat down and going through the menu. We noticed there vegans at the next table.
I didn't say anything however he went out about hunting, taxidermy, pest exterminators and how pate is made, outdoor cooking and he got out is phone for Outdoors TV.
I told him to shush and warned him that it's not appropriate, but he blurted out about my outdoor pursuits. Which did make chuckle because it was the say he said it.
He got a firm telling from the vegan table and rightly so. Tubs being Tubs responded do you know how many mice, rats, crickets, grass hoppers and voles were killed in the combiner harvester for your vegetables?
I paid for the vegans dinner to keep the peace and bought them some wine before thing's escalated.
I asked him why his acting up almost to point of nastiness, he showed me a piece of paper which stated he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
This hit me hard because it runs in my family, when he left for the rest room I spoke to the diner's to explain his actions.
One said his going through the same thing and he's only eating this crap to keep his doctor and wife happy. He told me fancies some steak and chicken.
When Tubs came back he had been crying this is the first time in 40 odd years I have seen him cry.
Tubs apologised which he has always done if he has gone OTT.
Tubs sat down and the man came over and told Tubs they have things in common. Tubs asked what? He said we have the same cancer and both enjoy meat and outdoor leisure activities.
His wife said he likes to hunt and was a pig farmer for many year's.
He changing his diet to help fight the cancer in hope to see to his daughter get married. Again this hit me hard, as I have 2 daughters and one has special needs and prostate cancer could happen to me has it's in the genes.
However we all exchanged phone numbers and he offered to take us fishing on his boat tomorrow. Without Tubs erratic behaviour he wouldn't of found a support network and I wouldn't be fishing on a fancy boat.
My father fought to try beat cancer my uncle just carried on like normal wine, women and song.
I do worry for my daughter when we go who is going to look after her, my other daughter has her own life.
Age is one of life's practical joke's.

It's apparently one of the more easily treatable cancers to get if it's caught early, so hopefully your friend will be OK.
Prostate cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and is very treatable if caught early – research suggests treatment at stages one and two has a near 100% survival rate compared to around 50% at stage four.

An elderly relative of mine was referred to hospital by his GP for tests because the GP suspected prostate cancer. He skipped the appointment (his GP was furious with him) and ended up dying some time later with bone cancer. So avoiding treatment if you get it might not be the best thing to do.
