I was asked to produce some tracks by him in the 1970's (I was, at the time, a top record producer). We got together and instantly clicked. Asked him to write fresh lyrics to Two Little Boys - as Two Little Girls (named Edna and Madge). Madge was her silent "best friend". It was hilarious. We also did Disco Matilda (a disco version of the Australian classic) and a version of Lighting Strikes. Sadly we couldn't get permission to release the changed lyric track but Disco Matilda came out and Barry went on Top of the Pops to huge acclaim. If you listen/look closely, you can see me there too.
At the time I was standing as a Royalist candidate in Barnes and Barry came down (as Edna) to open our "campaign headquarters) - we got front page coverage in all the nationals. A delightful, funny, intelligent man. You can hear Matilda on our U K Records Greatest Hits collection (I love it).
My response should have been - drag-ons - play on the word dragons - not drag-ones!!!! That just doesn’t make sense nor is it amusing!!!!! (Blasted spell check!)
Ah Cindy - spell checks; another of Satan's Weapons of Mass Destruction.
I think it says it in the Bible (Esther - Old Test - dedicated to Rants On?) "The Lord decrees ALWAYS check before tapping SEND!".

Just caught up episode 24 - and wanted to say I thought your tribute to the great Barry/Edna was very well done. I will always have a soft spot for Barry/Edna as - as well as being so bloody talented - my Mum used to LOVE Dame Edna, and as a young teenager some of my fondest memories of my mum snd me together was Christmas when she let me have one martini with her (heavily adulterated with lemondade) and we would watch the great Dame together.
