I remember in the 1980's when parts of NYC and some subway stations were no go areas. I have friends who live around NY, they refuse to use the subway indefinitely and no longer go out at night.
They tell me NY has gone back to the 70's and 80's just without the XXX theatre's.

I remember vividly seeing a lot of Guardian Angels chapters were escorting a lot of ladies home in the day.

I moved to NYC about 5 years after Son of Sam rampage. Women were still dying their hair and getting short hair cuts, in case there were copycat killers lurking. I was warned not to look at people or make eye contact if I was travelling alone.

A known criminal who has been arrested more than 40 times was up to his old tricks got his comeuppance. Ordinary people can only take so much scum. Then they will be another Bernie Goetz incident.


Bernie, was assaulted severely before getting a firearm. The crooks armed with screwdrivers met their match when a nerd flipped. The trail was a media circus but Goetz got a lot of public support.
