His new Mail column - typical useless House of Commons silly committee says he should have asked their permission. "Why?" everyone asks. These stupid regulations (like the Partygate stupid unimportant row) only make those of us on the fence think that Boris, a bad PM, has many good points and ignoring stupid conventions is one of them. Ditto Trump in America.

I like Boris and make no bones about saying so. I'd have him back as Prime Minister tomorrow. But sadly no British political leader will ever survive in a climate where the press are obsessed with trivia. Boris was ousted because his staff wanted a drink after work during a particularly stressful period and because everyone homophobically assumed that a gay man accused of a grope MUST be guilty (even though eventually it was shown he wasn't).
