This is such an important point that was lost then and largely is now.

The Gov was so disingenuous, so manipulative, in how they used the scientists. They used them to make it look like they were following "the science" as if there is a "science" concerned with doing a cost benefit analysis of the harm of lockdowns.

No, this is a public policy decision the Gov is responsible for.

All the scientists did was say what they best believed the virus would do. It was for Gov to decide whether schools should shut etc. And whether all the resulting harm was worth it?

But the Gov confused the majority so well they still avoid responsibility. And millions of otherwise bright people still believe it was all necessary and inevitable.

And that people like me are arrogant for thinking we know more than scientists, when we never said this.

There is an argument lokdowns were necessary. I don't agree with it and the evidence mounts all the time that they were a dreadful mistake.But the argument was never made.

Because the Gov was focused on media headlines and their careers, not the overall, long term well being of the people it purports to represent. This also was the case with the opposition.
