TOPIC: Submariner

Submariner 1 Year, 12 Months ago
Another media inflated trivial story (tiny boat missing with 5 people in it) - nobody made as much fuss over the 700 missing in a slightly bigger boat near Greece - but I have to admit I really don't like or trust the sea. Our globe's great undiscovered jungle. Who knows what is hidden in there? This year I've spent some time floating on it (Ferries for the car to and from Morocco; in and out of Venice) as you can see on A Victim Bites Back (33 Episodes in over the past eight months). It's beautiful to look at but I find it intimidating. Notice how the boss of the firm, Stockton Rush said "it's very dangerous" without really meaning it. Just as people admit there is a False Allegations Industry without really believing it - until it happens to them or someone dear to them. It IS very dangerous (just as the False Allegations Industry is dangerous), as Stockton Rush said but never believed.

However, this unimportant, trivial accident (if that's what it is) does not deserve all the inflated coverage. Whereas the "you will be believed" MeToo madness is the other way around; ignored as it kills off numerous "great stories".

What strikes me as odd is - SURELY the company has more than one sub? Why don't they send another down to see what's going on?

The BBC Travel Show programme did a couple of episodes earlier this year about this kind of sub - apparently the same company, not sure if it was the same sub - going down to view the Titanic. There was a technical problem with manoeuvring the sub at one point, but they managed to solve it.

This article refers only to "the submersible" so perhaps there is only one.

Forgot to add, they managed to resolve the problem with manoeuvring the sub with the help of someone from the support ship, with which they were obviously still in contact. Being bolted into a metal tube with one switch and steered with a games controller and sunk to the bottom of the ocean probably isn't something most people would want to do but if the CEO was confident and the tourists were having to pay so much, maybe they didn't think anything major could go wrong. Perhaps migrants who have to pay a fortune to people smugglers also assume they'll get their money's worth.

Which is why, Jo, we should open all borders and make entry safe again. We don't have to allow everyone to stay - depending on investigation and entry officials decisions. A guaranteed way to stop "PEOPLE SMUGGLING".

Worse really GM - they are enduring several days in a tube at the bottom of the ocean knowing they are going to run out of oxygen and die. It would have been relatively quick for most on The Titanic. One can only wonder at the psychology and drama down there - has the father of the teenager attempted to murder the CEO yet?

If they do have a second sub there may be a shortage of volunteers to man it now! Apparently serious concerns were raised about the safety claims for the sub since 2018.

One can only wonder at the lack of imagination and delusion involved in spending hundreds of thousands on a self evidently risky trip and not googling these reports (or ignoring them).

Being a billionaire probably makes you think you are invulnerable.

I would not have taken my son on this trip if it cost a tenner...
