Beaten! The situation as it stands is that if Russia win their remaining three games then they will qualify, and Croatia will only need a point in Macedonia to prevent England from qualifying.

Absolutely thrown away.
I quite confidently at one nil up starting doing other things when it was on, allways a danger of course.

Easy to have hindsight of course, but Rooney off after half time would have done it I feel. Defence needed strengthening and was reliant and Russian innacuracy.

Another poor performance. Many people will blame the plastic surface, but it was still way below par whatever the surface.
Too many prima donnas for my liking.

Georgia v Scotland.. 16 Years, 6 Months ago
Watching Scotland at the moment. They are 2-0 down and not really getting into this game. I didn't see the England game. I notice that both Russia's goals came in the second half. So often I see England slacken after 45 mins. They always seem unable or unwilling to do a full 90, even when they win.

I'll watch the highlights tonight.

Maybe those England fans who turned against Sven after he'd got them to the Quarter Finals of the World Cup will be eating their words now.

With practically no chance of qualification, I would hope the search is on for a new manager, and I would suggest looking abroad. Unless we can bring about a miraculous resurrection of Brian Clough, there is no English manager fit for purpose.

We need an England manager who can look to the future and not just recycle the usual failed has beens. A manager with the guts to wipe the board and create his own team from scratch without undue influence from certain Premiership managers.

I've always favoured Stuart Pierce. He's done a good job with the Under 21's. Give him a free hand and he might work wonders with the main team.

Yes, what England needs is a "psycho".

Funnily enough Al, I'd like to see a Scot get it; that Martin guy who managed Celtic and now Aston Villa whose surname I forget but whose analysis and leadership qualities I admire (as well as getting good moral vibes from him).

Martin O'Neil. He's Irish.

Not a bad manager. He inherited a strong Celtic side. Did ok with Leicester before that, but hardly set the game on fire. He's plodding along with Villa. He might make a good England manager, but so might many others. It's hard to tell. From some of Martin's comments I get the feeling he'd probably stick with the known players, so things wouldn't really change under him. International football is so different and, as we are finding out, getting a good manager involves trial and error.

I had a radical thought, that Jack Charlton could do an excellent job. Worked wonders with the Irish republic, plus he's not afraid to be different or speak his mind. He is getting on a bit, so maybe Jackie as manager with "Psycho" as his assistant. It would probably shake things up a bit.
