Nigel Farage claims his bank accounts have been closed 'without explanation'
..."So I thought, well there we are, I'll have to go and find a different bank, I've been to seven banks, asked them all 'could I have a personal and a business account?', and the answer has been no in every single case. ...
He also claimed in his video that the "only explanation I can think of" for the decision was a claim made by Labour MP Chris Bryant in the House of Commons that Mr Farage had received nearly £550,000 from Kremlin-backed TV channel RT.
Mr Farage has categorically denied the claims by Mr Bryant - which were made under the protection of parliamentary privilege and which he has not repeated outside the Commons.
"The truth is I've never received any money from any sources with any link to Russia," Mr Farage said….
According to the parliament website, Chris Bryant is chair of the Committee on Standards and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, among others, and is vice-chair (formerly chair) of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Russia and chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Magnitsky Sanctions. Given his involvement in the latter two groups, it seems possible that he might be privy to information on who was receiving payments from Russia.
Nigel Farage says that the most the bank (reports say it's Coutts) has told him is that they're closing his accounts for commercial reasons. It seems unlikely to me that he should be denied a bank account because of, as he suggests in his video, his views on the EU and campaigning to leave it. They've been known about for decades and the referendum was seven years ago. It also seems unlikely that if he was appearing on Russia Today, he did it without payment.
But it's not a nice predicament to find himself in and I agree with Ann Widdecombe, interviewed on GB News, who says that banks should be required by law to give reasons for closing accounts - reasons which can be contested in court.

NatWest, who I had been with for almost 60 years, dumped me a few years ago without any explanation. Shocking and very disturbing. I'm now with several banks (loving the online ones). When it happened I discovered hundreds of others, likewise shafted. Apparently they are the worst offenders by far. I bet Farage was NatWest.
That is shocking. You're surely entitled to an explanation, e.g. whether they wrongly assumed you were breaking the law. I wonder if you'd still be able to get an explanation through the financial ombudsman. It's surely a breach of your human rights if a bank closes your accounts through no fault on your part.
The Daily Mail says Farage's bank is Coutts, which they say is owned by NatWest.
Mr Farage has not named the bank who plan to shut his own personal and business accounts this summer, but is understood to be Coutts, the famous 327-year-old private bank whose clients include members of the Royal Family.
It is owned by high street giant NatWest, which is still 38.6% owned by the British taxpayer after it was bailed out following the 2008 financial crisis. MailOnline has asked Coutts and Nat West to comment.

More banks are closing, I guess I will need to open up a Post Office account soon.
Cash is still one of the few freedoms we have left. I refuse to go to any establishment that refuses cash, even if it's for just for a coffee and a pasty.
